Mckee Thatcher‘s journey with music has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. From his early days of classical piano lessons with his mother to his current status as a budding indie musician, Mckee has always found solace in music. Growing up in the same town as the famous Coachella Music and Arts Festival, he was exposed to a diverse array of music styles, which only served to fuel his passion for creating his own pieces.
As he grew older, Mckee expanded his musical repertoire to include the guitar, banjo, and bass, drawing inspiration from greats like Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Neil Diamond, and The Killers. In high school, he pulled inspiration from artists like M83, Alt-J, Tame Impala, Beach House, Alabama Shakes, Flume, and many more. But it wasn’t until a service mission to Japan that Mckee truly realized the power of music. Without the comfort of his usual musical escape, he was forced to face himself, and it was then that he realized that music was not only a means of hiding but also a way to freely express himself to the world.
Upon returning from Japan, Mckee began to take music seriously, releasing his first single, “Bridges and Planes,” in July 2020, followed by “I’ll Take Back My Heart” two months later. But despite receiving support from friends and family, his father and others advised him to keep music as a side project and attend college instead. Heeding that advice, Mckee attended Utah State University, where he continued to work on music projects, releasing his first EP, “Mosaic Floors,” and single, “Moonflower,” in April 2021.
However, a falling out with a love interest led to the release of emotionally charged singles “Watch You Fall In Love” and “Feeling Sunny” in May 2022. Later on, Mckee’s personal journey of self-discovery is reflected in his music, as evidenced by his more recent singles “Tryna Be Like You,” “I Guess That’s Love,” and “Sweet Psychosis,” which drew inspiration from artists like Beach House, Goth Babe, and Ritt Momney.
With aspirations to release a debut album, collaborate with some of his favorite artists, and perform across the nation, Mckee is determined to make his mark in the music industry, with the ultimate goal of performing on the Coachella stage in his hometown.
