In a world where reality shows are a dime a dozen, Steve Cederquist stands out, not just for his success as a Hollywood reality-TV personality on “Flip or Flop,” but for his triumph over a turbulent past. His life’s story is one of gritty resilience, a testament to the human spirit’s capacity to rise above adversities. Cederquist is more than just a successful television personality; he founded a thriving renovation design company and is a significant philanthropic figure.
Before he stood in the spotlight, Cederquist trod on dangerous paths involving alcohol, drugs, criminal activities, and dysfunctional relationships. A life-changing moment occurred when child protective services moved his children into foster care, propelling Cederquist into a life shift. He transformed his life, proving that, while daunting, change is undoubtedly attainable.
Today, he shares his riveting journey in his book, “Get Out Alive: Surviving and Thriving After Drugs, Guns, Gangs, Dysfunction, and Crazy.” His narrative incorporates characters who take his self-growth exercises, displaying raw, authentic responses. Throughout the audiobook, readers witness their progress, mirroring Cederquist’s, from trials to triumph.
“Get Out Alive” is not just a recollection of Cederquist’s past; it is a guiding light for those in despair, a beacon that illuminates the way to transformation. By depicting how he got too close to risk and found himself in harm’s way, he invites his readers to cast their struggles into an imaginary dumpster to unburden themselves and rise above their circumstances.
Cederquist has shared various stages in line with his advocacy due to his impressive philanthropic work, gracing the stage with such notables as Deepak Chopra, Curt Cronin, Yashi Brown, Robert Charles Swan, and many more. He was invited to Monta Vista/Back Bay High School, where he spoke to around 200 students who were trying to remake their lives. His audience, composed mainly of 14 to 18-year-olds, listened intently as he shared his life’s wisdom: not to let your past define you, to be accountable for one’s life, and to disregard the negativity of others who attempt to demean one’s worth.
Following this passionate discussion, five students approached Cederquist, sharing their harsh realities of fending for themselves due to their incarcerated parents. They told him they wanted to change their circumstances after hearing Cederquist’s inspiring talk, as his words enlightened them that there was indeed a way out. To further encourage these five individuals, Cederquist gave out his books to assist in their transformative journey.
This enriching encounter would not have been possible without Kirk Bauermeister, the school’s principal and Cederquist’s friend of 30 years. Bauermeister believed in the power of Cederquist’s story and saw its potential to inspire the striving students of Monta Vista/Back Bay High School.
Success stories like Cederquist’s are inspiring, yet his willingness to share his journey openly and his persevering spirit truly sets him apart. He goes beyond his successful persona by using his past to inspire hope and ignite change. “Get Out Alive” goes beyond its pages, offering more than just a compelling narrative. It is a tool designed to change lives and inspire personal transformation.
Through his book and philanthropy, Cederquist has proven that one’s past does not seal one’s fate. Everyone can turn life around, transforming hardship into success and adversity into an advantage. After all, it’s about getting out alive and thriving.
