Incurable Diseases You Should Actively Try To Prevent

The bubonic plague terrorized Europe, killing a massive portion of the population hundreds of years ago. To the surprise of many, though, the bubonic plague isn’t lost to history. There are a few cases of it every year in the US and other countries.

Despite our impressive modern medicine, there are still incurable diseases. It doesn’t matter if you get your yearly checkups and vaccines, you could still be susceptible to them if you’re not careful. What are some examples of incurable diseases today that the average person should be wary of?

Let’s take a look at five medical conditions with no cure that you should prevent.

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is a condition that results from poor diet and obesity. Unlike type 1 diabetes, which is genetic, people with type 2 diabetes are responsible for getting it. Personal experiences prove that it’s often a person’s greatest regret.

Those with diabetes must carefully manage their blood sugar and overall health for the rest of their life. If you don’t have type 2 diabetes, then it’s critical that you eat well and exercise frequently to avoid it.

HIV/AIDS

Autoimmune diseases like AIDS (caused by HIV) can be debilitating and deadly. HIV is asymptomatic, but requires someone to take PrEP for the rest of their life. It’s also contagious, so they must exhibit great care to avoid contaminating someone.

AIDS is likewise incurable, although great strides have been made towards curing it. We may cure it in the coming years, but for now, take great care when choosing sex partners and using needles. Caution in those life situations is usually enough to prevent it.

Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s disease is most common in the elderly but can occur in much younger people, like Michael J. Fox. This is when a person experiences uncontrollable and unintended movements, most often shaking.

While there is no cure for Parkinson’s, and it’s a terminal illness, a person can reduce their likelihood of getting it. The key is to eat brain-healthy foods and have plenty of daily physical activity. Parkinson’s victims may need to sell property to pay for treatment; this post explains it well.

Arthritis

Arthritis is also common in the elderly, but people can acquire it much earlier in life. Arthritis can cause a great deal of pain and limited mobility in the joints. That said, it’s not guaranteed to happen to someone of an advanced age.

Like most things on this list, a healthy lifestyle goes a long way to preventing it. Protecting your joints from trauma, keeping a healthy weight, and staying hydrated are great habits. One also should avoid high-impact or extreme sports.

Hepatitis

Hepatitis is a debilitating liver infection disease that results in liver swelling and poor function. It can greatly diminish quality of life, or cause premature death.

The key to preventing hepatitis is to wear protection during sex and keep things clean. Regular handwashing and getting all your vaccines is usually enough.
