The Ohio Piano Duet and Duo Competition challenged Cheung’s collaborative musicianship in thrilling ways. As he performed alongside his duo partner, he showcased their musicality before a panel of judges and peers. This rewarding experience validated their hard work and dedication and highlighted Cheung’s versatility and mastery of the collaborative piano.

Participating in Pianofest in the Hamptons was an enriching experience for Cheung. It provided him with a unique platform to nurture friendships, give performances, and form lasting connections with the Hamptons community. The highly selective summer festival offered exposure to diverse audiences, allowing him to share his music beyond traditional concert settings. “Studying in and touring with Pianofest expanded my horizons as a performer and deepened my connection with classical music enthusiasts,” remarked Cheung.

Outside of the States, performing at Bridgewater Hall as part of the Manchester Midday Concert Society was a landmark achievement for Cheung. He described the experience as “remarkable,” noting the significance of sharing his music with a discerning audience within a prestigious concert series known for its commitment to classical music excellence. His captivating performance cemented his place among top-tier pianists graced this renowned venue.

The opportunity to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London was a dream come true for Cheung. His participation in the Classical Coffee Morning series marked a pinnacle in his career. “It’s one of the most iconic venues in the world,” said Cheung. “Being selected to perform there was a tremendous honor highlighting my dedication to my craft.” His performance was lauded for its technical brilliance and expressive depth, earning him widespread recognition.

Cheung’s recital at Steinway Hall London was a moment of pride, reflecting his affinity for the world’s finest instruments. The venue, synonymous with excellence in piano manufacturing, allowed him to demonstrate his skills on a Steinway piano, revered globally for its exceptional quality. His performance celebrated musical artistry and underscored his mastery as a pianist dedicated to excellence.

Champion of Hidden Gems and Chamber Music

In addition to his remarkable achievements, Jimmy Cheung is recognized for his passion for discovering and championing hidden gems and lesser-known works by famous composers. His ability to uncover and present these treasures in compelling performances showcases his commitment to musical exploration. During the pandemic, Cheung recorded the complete chamber music of Frederic Chopin, bringing to life compositions that often receive less attention compared to Chopin’s solo piano works. This recording reflects his dedication to expanding the repertoire and sharing lesser-known masterpieces with audiences.

Cheung’s influence extends beyond his solo performances. As a Piano Instructor at the Musical Arts Center of San Antonio, he has built a formidable studio, with students winning prizes at the city and state level. Formerly adjunct faculty member in piano at Xavier University and a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), he has mentored countless students, from class piano and keyboard skills to piano concentration and masterclasses. His teaching roles include: Xavier University (Adjunct Faculty): Class Piano, Keyboard Skills, Studio Class. University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (Graduate Teaching Assistant): Commercial Keyboard Skills, Functional Piano Skills, Piano.

Moreover, his collaborative piano experience is equally illustrious. He has served as a staff accompanist and collaborative pianist at multiple institutions, including the University of Texas at San Antonio, Arkansas State University, and Ball State University. His contributions have enriched ensembles like the Cincinnati Starling Project and the Corryville Suzuki Project, and his performances have delighted audiences in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Hong Kong.
