Adir Cohen and Liad Ichiye first met in the vibrant culinary scene of Israel at the Herbert Samuel restaurant, one of the country’s premier fine-dining establishments. Their shared passion for cooking forged a bond that would later become a partnership. The two chefs had big visions to bring high-end kosher restaurants to Los Angeles.

Starting with just seven employees in 2020. Adir and Liad began their culinary journey during one of the most challenging times for the restaurant industry—the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. They started small, working tirelessly, experimenting with ideas, and crafting dishes that would leave lasting impressions. Today, the talented chefs oversee nearly 100 employees and multiple thriving ventures, including Next Door, Dr. Sandwich, Baazar Market, and Salamtak Catering.

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

The pandemic brought its fair share of obstacles, but for Adir and Liad, it was also a moment to rethink and rebuild. Working solo during this period, they brainstormed ways to expand their business and bring kosher cuisine to new heights. Next Door, their flagship high-end kosher restaurant, became a shining example of their ability to adapt and succeed.

Another challenge they tackled head-on was training staff to meet their meticulous standards. Adir and Liad knew that exceptional food was only part of the equation—a memorable dining experience requires excellent service. By investing in their team and sharing their dedication to quality, they aimed to create a positive experience for every guest.
