“Sometimes the journey chooses you. What matters is what you do with it.”

— Sparky

Lisa Tabor, affectionately nicknamed “Sparky” for her vibrant, friendly, and enthusiastic personality, knows firsthand that life’s journey is not always chosen or fair. That reality has been a recurring theme throughout her life. Born in Louisiana, she has been a survivor since birth, relying on sheer will and proving time and again that irrepressible determination, fortitude, and resilience are what it takes to conquer even the most daunting Goliaths.

For nearly four decades, Tabor built a formidable career as an adventurous Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, award-winning healthcare entrepreneur, and executive. Alongside her professional achievements, she spent more than two decades as a leading philanthropist, including recently partnering with Total Life Champion™ during a holiday drive focused on youth development.

That life, however, changed abruptly. A sudden, devastating, and debilitating accident forced Tabor into early “retirement,” bringing an unplanned end to the career that had long defined her identity. What followed was a foreboding path marked by constant recovery from lifelong injuries and the profound loss of a profession she was unwilling to leave behind.

Tabor often joked that she came out of the womb with a stethoscope in her hand. Providing nursing and medical care was not only her destiny; it was her passion and a core part of who she was. The psychological toll of navigating multiple layers of injury recovery, loss, and grief at times felt insurmountable, creating what seemed like an impossible repositioning of her life.

Although her circumstances were permanently altered, Tabor refuses to use the term “disability.” She also refuses to be defined by her disabling conditions, even though few would fault her for choosing a quieter path. Anyone who truly knows her would say that taking it easy has never been Sparky’s style. In many ways, it was this forced reset, this tragedy, that unexpectedly opened the door to a world she never imagined. The lights of Hollywood, television, and film may never have come into play without it. And that is where the story takes an unexpected turn.

Several years into her recovery, Tabor crossed paths with someone who mentioned they were producing a movie. Always looking for ways to stay busy and active, she asked if they needed any help. Staying engaged, she says, is part of her immersion therapy, the belief that the only way to continue improving is to keep challenging herself. Instead of being brought on as an assistant, she was invited into the production as an actor.

Acting had never ever been on Sparky’s vision board, nor was it part of any long-term plan. But throughout her life and healthcare career, she had never shied away from new opportunities, so she leaned in. On her first day on set, she was bitten by the acting bug. The learning curve, the creative environment, and the people she met sparked an excitement she had not felt in years since her accident. Though the role was small, the experience delivered a sense of exhilaration she thought she had lost.

Just a few months later, that same group of actors invited her to join another film. A strong impression had clearly been made. She accepted the invitation and landed her first defined role at CBS Radford Studio Lot No. 5. For the first time, she had lines, scene partners, FX makeup, professional coaching, and the experience of working on a real movie set. The camaraderie was joyful and energizing. One day of filming was enough to confirm she wanted to do more.

Then came another production, and then another, and another. In less than three years since her first film appearance, Sparky has worked on a total of a dozen productions. Her roles have expanded beyond acting to include work as a production assistant and, most recently, as a multi-level producer.

Sparky has never done anything halfway. She is also someone who needs to understand how things work behind the scenes. Along the way, she has collaborated with remarkable actors, cast, and crew, forming lasting friendships and drawing upon decades of transferable skills as she continues learning in this still unexpected industry. After being entrusted with her first principal role, she is now fully eligible for membership in the Screen Actors Guild.

Tabor states, “It has been an undeniably fun and fascinating pivot from healthcare provider to actress and producer.” She adds, “I have always followed where the universe leads when my intuition feels right, and I believe I am ready to do more as an actress and producer.”

“Never give up” is not just a cliché to Sparky; it is a way of life. She is David. She is a fighter, unafraid of change, and very much a change agent. She exudes fearless “watch me” energy.

Now, audiences get to watch Sparky’s inspiring life pivot unfold on the big screen.
