For more than two decades, Mission: I’M Possible Children’s Charity has worked to encourage children facing illness, poverty, and other difficult circumstances through empowerment events, literacy initiatives, and children’s publishing programs.
Legally known as Time 4 Sharing Mission I am Possible Corp, the U.S.-registered 501(c)(3) organization was founded on November 13, 2000, in Prague by Coach M J Tolan and his wife Viviane. What began as a personal celebration following the couple’s long-awaited news that they would become parents developed into an international initiative focused on helping children recognize their own potential.
From One Event in Prague to an International Mission
The organization’s first children’s event took place at the Prague Zoo, where 37 orphans participated in what would become the foundation for Mission: I’M Possible’s continuing empowerment programs.
The early event also introduced a character that would eventually become closely associated with the organization’s work: Boomerang, a kangaroo adopted from the zoo through sponsorship, as the organization’s mascot. Over the years, Boomer has evolved from a symbolic mascot into the central character of a children’s book series designed to communicate messages of courage, resilience and possibility to young readers.
Mission: I’M Possible says its programs have expanded considerably since that first event. According to information published by the organization, it has conducted more than 150 children’s empowerment events in countries including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lebanon, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, the Philippines, Ghana, Kenya, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United States.
The organization says its books and events have reached more than 20,000 children across twelve countries. The figure is based on the organization’s own reporting.
Building a Message Around the “I’m Possible” Mindset
The organization’s philosophy is closely connected to the personal experiences of its co-founder and president, Coach M J Tolan.
Tolan has spoken publicly about surviving cancer twice and about the experience of undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment. During his treatment, he used costumes and humor as a way of confronting the challenges associated with his illness. That experience subsequently became part of the message behind Mission: I’M Possible.
Rather than emphasizing the limitations created by difficult circumstances, the organization promotes what it calls an “I’M Possible” mindset. Its programs are designed to encourage children to approach adversity with confidence and to see possibilities even when circumstances are challenging.
The message is particularly relevant to the children the organization seeks to reach, including those affected by illness, poverty and other forms of hardship.
Boomer the Kangaroo Brings the Message to Young Readers
A significant part of Mission: I’M Possible’s recent work has involved combining its empowerment message with children’s literacy.
Boomer the Kangaroo serves as the organization’s long-standing mascot and is the central character in its children’s book projects, including The I’M Possible Adventures of Boomer the Kangaroo and Boomer Saves the Night.
Through the character, the organization presents stories intended to help young readers think about resilience and overcoming adversity. The books extend the organization’s empowerment message beyond its live events, allowing children and families to engage with the “I’m Possible” concept through reading.
The organization’s publishing activities have also created opportunities to bring its message into community settings. In April 2026, a book-signing event in Orlando, Florida, marked the release of a new Boomer the Kangaroo title. The event was held at Barnes & Noble and was supported by Raymond Banzuela International Publishing Services through its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Continuing Children’s Empowerment Programs
Mission: I’M Possible continues to organize children’s empowerment activities internationally. Its programs include the “Mission: I’M Possible Fun Day” events, which combine entertainment and activities with messages centered on confidence, resilience, and personal potential.
The organization has also announced International Children’s Day empowerment events in 2026 involving programs in the Philippines, Ghana, Kenya, and Sri Lanka.
For Tolan and the organization he co-founded, the events represent a continuation of an initiative that began with a small gathering of children in Prague more than two decades ago.
The organization’s evolution from a single children’s event into an international charity has also expanded the ways in which it delivers its message. Live empowerment events, children’s books and the Boomer the Kangaroo character now form interconnected parts of its approach to reaching young audiences.
More than 26 years after its founding, Mission: I’M Possible continues to center its work on a simple proposition: difficult circumstances do not have to define what a child believes is possible.
