Each year, the number of individuals who succumb to suicide increases dramatically and has been a cause for alarm in many countries. Unfortunately, more and more of the world’s teens also become vulnerable to suicide for several reasons. Motivational speaker and suicide hotline counselor Addison Zegan is putting himself out there to reach as many trouble young individuals as he can with every intention to help prevent suicide.
Addison Zegan has had his share of dark days in the past. He later realized that young individuals have minimal exposure and access to a motivational speaker they can easily relate to when their inner struggles become more pronounced. By providing a platform where young adults have access to meaningful and relatable materials such as books, videos, and other helpful resources, he is imparting positivity and hope to people who need them most. As someone who understands popular youth culture, young adults can easily relate to his personality and lifestyle.
“I like to be a different kind of motivational speaker. When I was going through my hard times in life, I would listen to motivational speakers who didn’t relate to me or my story at all. They would be speaking to business giants or big corporate CEOs who wanted to 10x the sales they made from last year. When I started doing my motivational talks, I wanted to reach out to younger adults who were on the edge of ending their life. I felt that there weren’t any motivational speakers talking to the broken or hopeless,” Addison Zegan explains.
Cases of suicide are becoming more prevalent among young adults from ages 15 to 24. It is for this reason that Addison Zegan is making his motivational speeches available on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, and other social media platforms for free. “I focus on spoken word and poetry with a solid message of redemption or self-realization that you will be okay and you will get through these hard times,” says Addison Zegan.
Addison Zegan likes volunteering for a suicide hotline and has taken hundreds of calls, helping the person on the other end of the one make sense of things. Remembering how depressed he felt during his suicide attempts and not knowing there was a suicide hotline he could call, Addison wants to use his time to make sure that nobody else would feel alone and lonely as he was at the point of his life when he was ready to give up. He is motivated by the belief that each person going through depression deserves help, however possible.
Breaking the stigma of suicide by speaking boldly about it and how people can get past the idea of entertaining it is something that Addison Zegan wants to passionately do in the coming years. While it may be considered taboo in so many communities around the world today, he wants to create a movement that will protect the welfare of those who have attempted suicide in the past or are thinking of doing it. For one, getting them the help they need is very important. As one who understands full well how damaging it can be, he is committed to continuing to encourage young adults and direct them to a better path in life.
