New Style of Contemporary Art: Making Waves With a Message

Charles Gitnick, a Los Angeles-born artist, has made waves in the international art world through his avant-garde approach to contemporary issues, especially gun violence. Known for his distinctive 3D gun artworks, Gitnick’s style blends elements of abstract expressionism, modern street art, and social commentary, creating a fusion that has captivated audiences globally. His innovative use of replica firearms in his work is symbolic, often blurring their presence with vibrant, abstract designs, subtly reminding viewers of the omnipresence of violence while calling for change through artistic dialogue.

Early Development and Artistic Journey

Gitnick began his artistic journey at an unusually young age. By five, he was creating abstract and landscape paintings, and by seven, he was enrolled in formal art education. However, he eventually moved away from formal classes, preferring self-directed study, taking inspiration from renowned artists such as Jackson Pollock, Tracy Emin, Banksy, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Andy Warhol.

His early works were sold on the bustling Venice Beach boardwalk in California, where his eye-catching pieces drew significant attention. By the age of 12, Gitnick had already sold multiple pieces in Venice and had dreams of expanding his presence to New York City’s revered art scene. In 2013, he achieved this dream by exhibiting his work in SoHo, marking the start of his international recognition. From here, Charles’ and his ‘End Violence’ message exploded in popularity, both in the media and in global exhibitions.

In the age of social media, Gitnick has built a massive online presence, particularly on Instagram, where he has over 450,000 followers. His ability to connect with audiences both through physical art and digital platforms has expanded his reach beyond traditional art circles.

Gitnick’s renowned works revolve around the theme of gun violence. His iconic 3D gun pieces feature replica firearms subtly embedded in colorful abstract patterns. This design choice reflects his commitment to highlighting the dangers of gun violence in a non-confrontational yet thought-provoking manner. His style aims to challenge viewers to confront the reality of gun violence, while also advocating for peace via a beautiful medium.

Although Gitnick’s art often addresses sensitive social issues, his work is not political in nature. Instead, it aims to foster conversation and reflection on the impact of violence in society, particularly gun-related incidents. Charles often incorporates themes relating to mental health and its influence on gun violence in the United States. In one of his statements, Gitnick explained how the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012 had a profound impact on him as a young artist, motivating him to use his work to start the conversation in the path of peace.

Current Ventures

Charles tells LA Wire, “I’m currently just focusing on my mental health and this next collection. I think it will really be something different. I’m not focusing on what looks nice on a wall; for me, it’s about sparking emotion and conversation. If you’re talking, it’s working.
