The sports industry is mostly a male-dominated field. Even the people working in the industry who are not players, like coaches, referees, and agents, are usually male. But Charlsey Zyne is working to break barriers in the sports industry and prove that women can also have a successful career as a sports agent.
Charlsey Zyne is a former student-athlete, having played soccer at the University of Miami, and soon to be a sports agent. She is currently a law student and an intern at Dynamic Sports Group (DSG). Dynamic Sports Group is a full-service sports agency representing professional athletes and coaches from various sports and leagues. In her work at DSG, Charlsey focuses mainly on football and soccer clients as these two sports hold an important place in her life. Charlsey has played soccer for most of her life, and she attended a big football college. She has first-hand experience of the student-athlete life, and because of that, she got to see the men behind the football helmets.
Injuries kept Charlsey Zyne from playing professional soccer, but she still feels connected to the sport. Professional women soccer players do not get paid as much as the men, and Charlsey wants to be their advocate and a force behind them to make their voices heard.
As a former student-athlete, Charlsey Zyne knows just how much work the athletes put into their sport. She saw how these college football players dedicate themselves to continually training and improving their skills. “For some of these athletes,” Charlsey says, “making it into the NFL is the only way out of a difficult life, and it is the driving force that gets them out of bed at five in the morning, the driving force to get in the extra rep and work through all the blood, sweat, and tears that comes with playing the sport.”
Seeing these players’ commitment is part of what makes Charlsey Zyne passionate about pursuing a career in representing athletes. She shares, “I am on the path to become a sports agent so I can help these athletes see their dreams become a reality. I want to be someone they can trust to have their best interest in mind.”
This aspiring sports agent wants to be a person that athletes can come to rely on. “Whether that means negotiating their contracts and marketing deals or simply conversations unrelated to their representation, I want to be that person they can come to with anything. This may not be traditionally part of what a sports agent does, but this is the type of agent I want to be,” Charlsey shares.
As a woman pursuing a career in a male-dominated field, Charlsey Zyne has had her fair share of naysayers. She has been told many times that women cannot be tough enough to work in sports, or that women get too emotional. Charlsey has also heard how women cannot be taken seriously when talking about football. Contrary to letting these negative comments pull her down, she is even more motivated to prove them wrong. All these doubts made her work harder to achieve her goals.
Aside from being a law student, Charlsey is also an entrepreneur. She is currently working on Cultured Classics, a clothing and lifestyle brand that hopes to remind people to be thankful for what they have. A portion from every purchase of a Cultured Classics piece will be given to the customer’s chosen charity. Giving back to communities has been an integral part of Charlsey’s upbringing, and she hopes to continue giving back through her business venture.
Charlsey Zyne is a force to be reckoned with. She is pursuing a law degree while working towards a sports representation career and is an entrepreneur about to launch a clothing and lifestyle brand. Her dedication to breaking the barriers to women’s success is evident in everything she does. She says, “I want to motivate others to pursue their passions no matter what obstacles are in the way. Hard work and determination will conquer all.”For more information, you may visit this website or this Instagram page.
