In communities as much as individuals, leadership shines like a beacon of hope when terrible things happen. We discuss the need for leadership during emergencies and the need of having confidence in the face of uncertainty. Famous for his incredible journey from the Miracle on the Hudson to giving and inspirational speaking, our speaker discusses how he overcame challenges and developed his strength. He discusses how passionately he supports the cause and the value of helping those in need after generating over $14.8 million for the American Red Cross. By sharing his own experiences and real-world strategies, he demonstrates how he inspires and motivates others. Our guest offers us excellent guidance on how to manage our emotions, shift our perspective, and concentrate on our own development as we discuss how to cope with and overcome challenges. He tells of his greatest experience, conquering his trepidations and swimming the Hudson River to raise money for the Navy Seal Foundation. Come discuss with our distinguished speaker how generosity, tenacity, and leadership can transform things.

What role do you believe leadership plays in navigating challenges and crises, both on a personal and organizational level?

-Leadership is the most important thing.  the person with the most certainty in the most uncertain times becomes the leader, leaders start with giving certainty to their teams.

You’ve raised over $14.8M USD for the American Red Cross through your talks. Can you tell us more about your philanthropic efforts and why this cause is important to you?

-The Red Cross supported me 3 times during and after the Miracle on the Hudson. I made it a part of my mission to align my mission with the Red Cross’ mission, to “alleviate human suffering.”

How do you approach the task of motivating and inspiring others to overcome adversity and pursue their goals, based on your own experiences?

-I not only show people how I have done it, I also tell people the strategies but most importantly, I give them a kinesthetic way to feel what it feels like when you overcome adversity.  I use my experience of when I went back into the Hudson River to swim with the Navy Seals to share the strategy on how to overcome adversity, and fears and achieve big goals.

What advice would you give to individuals who may be facing difficult circumstances or obstacles in their lives, based on the coping skills you’ve developed and shared?

First, manage your state, change the way you move your body, ask yourself different questions,  start focusing on the gain you have had not the gap you are in, and then reframe the meaning you have attached to the obstacle because the meaning you attach produces the emotion in your life and emotion is your life.

Looking back on your journey since the Miracle on the Hudson, what are you most proud of accomplishing, and what do you hope to achieve in the future?-  I am most proud that I went back into the Hudson River to raise money for the Navy Seal Foundation, after not swimming for over 40 years,  in 100 days I went from swimming only 25 yards to 3.1 miles in some of the toughest water in the United States and facing the fear that I endured 12 years previously.
