Regardless of their nature and magnitude, dreams can often be translated into reality when a person pours out their heart into making them come true. This is the message that Gary Hardie, better known as DJ GQ wants to send across to aspirants worldwide as he heads to the top of the music industry.
Born and raised in South Florida, this rising personality with Cuban and Chinese parentage and Jamaican heritage blends the best of his backgrounds into an amalgamation that represents his distinctive artistry. During his childhood, DJ GQ moved to Jamaica, a transition that would jumpstart his journey by exposing him to the sounds of the country. Spinning in Jamaican clubs after relocating, he eventually became a sponsored DJ at the age of 14.
With his Jamaican roots, DJ GQ offers an outstanding reggae-infused sound. His phenomenal releases have earned him numerous accolades, the most notable of which recently happened when he hit the tenth spot on the Billboard Reggae Charts with his EP titled “Is It You? The EP.” Released on October 9, the album secured the #4 place on iTunes’ Reggae category in less than two hours and went up to take the crown on the same day.
Currently based in Florida, this awarded figure is credited for being the pioneer of reggae/hip-hop blends. Having served as a DJ on Y100 Miami for eleven years now, he has amassed a huge following, gaining the loyalty of countless music enthusiasts. As a widely recognized DJ, his portfolio of accomplishments includes being the first Top 40 Mixer on Y100 and nominations for several awards, such as the Global Spin Awards, Southern Entertainment Awards, and Promo Only Summer Sessions Awards.
Acknowledged by RadioFacts as part of the list of Top 45 DJs, DJ GQ also became the recipient of the “DJ of the Year” nod at the Film, Recording, and Entertainment Council (FRC) Awards. All of this acclaim is in recognition of his skills and talent, as well as of the dedication he has continuously demonstrated for the craft.
Affiliated with Akon, DMX, Mr. Vegas, to name a few, DJ GQ has toured with Kevin Lyttle when the hit track “Turn Me On” was one of the top 10 songs worldwide. When asked about the names he works with on his ventures, he shares, “Most of the featured artists I worked with on this project and the next one are family — people like Mr. Vegas and Craigy T of T.O.K. are like brothers I grew up with.”
Today, he continues to perform throughout the year, taking center stage in international events while holding South Florida nightclub residencies weekly. With his success in establishing his name on the charts, DJ GQ is also set to expand his reach and impact as an artist.
In the coming years, DJ GQ will remain committed to his role as an ambassador for Reggae music while gracing Billboard more frequently.
