As much as South Florida is known for its vibrant rap scene, it’s not often that you hear about a rapper from Broward County. This city on the South East coast of Florida is the home of Downtown Dame, the hip hop artist from Brooklyn, New York, who is making waves throughout the South Florida music scene.
Just like many other rappers in the scene, he also has a story to tell. His story is a journey from nothing to building himself up to help those who have been living paycheck to paycheck, just like he was years ago. Dame moved from the poorest neighborhood from New York City. He grew up learning how to live for himself and make sure he survived. At that time, Dame never even knew if he had a future someday. But through hard work and perseverance, he did, and as soon as he learned how to grow a multi-million dollar company, he was unstoppable.
Today, he started a Black-owned record label and taught black entrepreneurship and modern music business for free. For him, success isn’t just for himself, but it’s also for everybody who needs a hand. He wanted to lift people and turn their lives around so they, too, can become successful. He’s doing it for everyday hustlers. “It could be a single mom trying her hardest to make it, young kids graduating high school trying to figure out this world or even aspiring musicians that think you need a record label to make it big,” he shares.
Besides becoming a successful entrepreneur, Dame made a name for himself as a rising artist in hip hop. It’s easy to see how he has Broward buzzing by creating his unique style that showcases his lyricism mixed with a melodic flow. Dame grew up listening to music and was heavily influenced by artists like Jay-Z, Ludacris, and 2Pac. He has since released his singles, Ride Out, Catching Vibes, and Taking Thrones, with almost 20,000 streams on Spotify.
Although he is relatively new to the music business, his passion and love for music have clearly opened up a lot of opportunities for him. He worked with a few established veterans and held his own on the upcoming B.C.B Tape 2 release.
Not only does his music stand out and has helped him become who he is today, but what really pushed his career to greater heights is his relentless work ethic and his refusal to never be outworked by the next person.
Music is special to Damion because it saved his life, so in return, he wants to be that spark for someone else and help change their lives through his songs. While his passion is music, and he has his sights focused on the goals he wants to accomplish, what inspires Downtown Dame the most is being an inspiration to the people that need it.
Indeed, Downtown Dame deserves to be heard not just for his sound, but for his story. Music fans should be on the lookout for new releases and stream Downtown Dame’s songs on Spotify, Apple Music, and other platforms where you can stream music.
