Christian educators play an essential role in fostering positive values and attitudes in the youth and students by incorporating biblical ideas into their teaching. They promote respect, integrity, and compassion through their actions and teaching. By prioritizing spiritual growth alongside intellectual performance, they assist students in developing a solid ethical basis. Christian educators also mentor pupils, teaching them to face life’s obstacles with faith and perseverance. Their influence goes beyond the classroom, forming future leaders who are informed and dedicated to making a positive difference in their communities and throughout the globe. Dr. Bill Blocker positively influences students through biblical education and leadership.

Dr. Bill Blocker is a prominent name in Christian education. His professional journey is marked by excellence and a commitment to developing the next generation of Christian leadership. Since becoming President of the College of Biblical Studies (CBS) in Houston in 2012, Dr. Blocker has been a transformational figure, driving the college to expansion and impact. His leadership style, based on strong faith and a vision for racial and ethnic equality, has impacted theological education.

Dr. Bill Blocker’s academic career shows his commitment to theological study and Christian education. He received his Doctor of Ministry in Christian Education (DMCE) from the Dallas Theological Seminary, noted for its rigorous academic programs and dedication to evangelical values. Before this, he received his Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Chicago Theological Seminary, where he formed a basis in biblical studies and pastoral care.

Early in his career, he attended Moody Bible Institute, an evangelical educational institution. Dr. Blocker worked as the Vice President and Dean of Educational Services. His duties included monitoring accrediting procedures, leading the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, and spearheading Moody Distance Learning efforts. During his time at Moody, advances in instructional technology and library services were made to improve students’ learning experiences.

When Dr. Blocker took over as president of the College of Biblical Studies in Houston, he brought a vision for elevating the institution while keeping faithful to its founding ideals. His leadership style emphasizes building a loving atmosphere that promotes academic performance and spiritual development. Under his leadership, CBS initiated various projects to improve the educational experience and expand the college’s reach.

Dr. Blocker’s achievements include the advent of online learning, hybrid learning options including in-class participation via remote access, spiritual formation and discipleship learning outcomes, and the Emerging Leaders scholarship program, a tuition-free degree program for young men who have grown up without a positive father figure. The Emerging Leaders scholarship seeks to eradicate father absence which is statistically proven to be a major cause of poverty, poor education, and incarceration.

Dr. Blocker has also helped extend other academic offerings. Under his leadership, the institution has established new degree programs and improved current ones to meet students’ changing requirements. These programs are intended to provide students with the theological understanding and practical skills required for successful ministry and leadership in a diverse and changing society.

Dr. Blocker’s time at CBS has been characterized by various accomplishments and milestones portraying his leadership abilities. One of the college’s most remarkable achievements is its dual accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and the Association of Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). This success reflects Dr. Blocker’s strong academic standards and commitment to excellence at CBS-Houston.

In addition to his work at CBS, Dr. Blocker sits on the boards of several organizations, including the Association of Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). In these roles, he helps shape the future of Christian education globally. His ideas and experience are recognized, and he is often asked to advise on accreditation, educational standards, and institutional efficiency issues.

Dr. Blocker’s participation on the ABHE board is critical to achieving the purpose of biblical higher education. His efforts ensure that ABHE-affiliated institutions adhere to high academic and spiritual integrity requirements.

Dr. Bill Blocker is also an author and public speaker, with writings and presentations inspiring thousands of Christians worldwide. His radio devotional, “Word to the Wise” can be heard on stations across the U.S., and in 2019, published “Word to the Wise: A Daily Devotional,” based on his popular radio spot.

A respected scholar, author, international speaker, and renowned Bible class teacher, Dr. Blocker teaches and lectures on biblical leadership, discipleship, marriage, and family. He established the international alliance with Karunya University in India and has served as a chapel presenter and international speaker in India and Israel.

He was also a graduation chapel speaker at Dallas Theological Seminary in 2022, when he addressed the graduating class, imparting advice and support as they prepared to begin their ministerial careers. His involvement at St. Martin Episcopal Church in 2023, where he led a series on the cost of discipleship, portrays his commitment to educating and mentoring Christians in their religious journeys.

Dr. Blocker’s impact goes beyond the College of Biblical Studies as he remains committed to teaching others how to love and disciple a hurting world.
