Dora Lau, Founder, CEO, and President of Los Angeles–based Dora L International, is leading a global sourcing and design company in the intimate apparel industry that emphasizes beauty, performance, and responsibility. She believes the most successful products come from innovative partners who bring creative solutions, understand global trends, and know how to create the right product at an accessible price point.
Under her leadership, Dora L International has made strides in sustainability, focusing on eco-friendly materials, enhancing breathability through advanced fabric technologies, and creating garments that are both beautiful and functional in real-life situations. With an eye on both style and function, Dora is shaping how brands approach intimate apparel, offering products that aim to meet the evolving needs of today’s consumers.
Foundations Began in Fashion and Music
Dora Lau’s journey to becoming a recognized leader in the intimate apparel industry began in Hong Kong, where her family owned a well-known record company that produced some of the hot-selling albums in the Cantopop genre. From a young age, she played a hands-on role in shaping artists’ public images, choosing fabrics, designing custom gowns and suits for performances, and traveling to the couture houses of Paris and Milan. It was during these early experiences that she discovered how foundation garments could significantly enhance an overall look.
After graduating from design school at FIDM, Dora turned her attention to designing eveningwear for full-figured women, driven by her own experience as a curvy young woman in search of well-fitting, beautiful clothing. This passion eventually led to the founding of Dora L International (DLI), a global intimate apparel company known for its trendsetting, innovative products from concept to completion. Recognized for exceptional fit across sizes 32–54 in bands and A–K in cups, DLI has received the industry’s prestigious HUG Award.

Innovating for Comfort, Beauty, and Affordability
The intimate apparel market is experiencing a shift, as consumer priorities for comfort, support, beauty, and affordability converge more than ever before. The latest wave of innovation focuses on lightweight construction, breathable fabrics, and performance-driven design elements that offer both comfort and style. Technologies like spacer cups, smooth one-layer scuba wings, and silicone-printed support bands are gradually replacing heavier, elastic-laden structures with sleek, almost weightless alternatives. These developments make it possible for bras to move with the body, maintain their shape, and provide all-day comfort while still maintaining a polished, stylish aesthetic.
For brands, the challenge lies in offering these premium features while keeping prices manageable—a task that requires deep knowledge of materials, fit engineering, and efficient production methods.
Affordability does not necessarily have to mean a trade-off in quality when innovation drives the design process. By leveraging precision patterning, high-performance fabrics, and efficient manufacturing, lingerie designers can minimize material waste without compromising on quality or aesthetic appeal. New methods are unlocking new possibilities for a modern lingerie experience, where every detail, from a barely-there spacer cup to an embedded print, serves both function and design. As the category continues to evolve, the brands most likely to succeed are those that balance innovation with wearability, offering women lingerie that fits their bodies, lifestyles, and budgets.

A CEO’s Perspective on the Future of Intimates
Dora Lau envisions the future of intimate apparel as a space where technology, personalization, and multifunctionality converge to create truly transformative garments. She foresees that tech integration will enable brands to develop products that are not only tailored to size but also to the wearer’s lifestyle and preferences. Personalization will extend beyond fit, offering customizable colors, trims, and performance features that make each piece uniquely suited to the individual. Multifunctionality will play an increasingly important role, with bras and lingerie designed to seamlessly transition from day to night, work to wellness, and across different climates and activities.
Looking forward, Lau remains dedicated to ensuring that Dora L International stays at the forefront of this evolution. By combining deep trend intelligence with ongoing innovation in fabrics and construction, DLI will continue to assist brands in meeting the growing consumer demand without sacrificing comfort, beauty, or affordability. Whether developing sustainable materials that offer luxury, engineering lighter and more breathable designs, or introducing new customization options, Lau’s focus is on supporting client success through solutions that align with the direction the market is heading. As she puts it, “Our goal is to understand what women will want next—and make it possible for brands to deliver it in a way that meets their needs.”
