Music, like all things, has evolved over the years. And while no single type of music can suit everyone’s taste, a genre that’s a little more controversial than the rest is hip-hop. Some people find it uninspiring and criticize it for its violent lyrics. But on the brighter end of the spectrum, there are those who admire it for its ability to catalyze social change through its message.
Eliot Ness, a self-made recording artist, addresses the tainted views people have on hip hop. In an interview, he said that the craft of hip hop, as we know it, is being slowly stripped away and turned into a circus. With this in mind, he wants to put hip hop back on track.
Raised and born in Houston, the city plays a huge role in molding his vision for his career. He pointed out that ‘real’ music seems to be fading away from where he came. So it dawned on him to make a nice little comeback. He noticed that artists are becoming more creative and more true to themselves as opposed to mimicking others. He is glad that Houston is slowly transitioning into a hip-hop center once again.
Eliot was greatly influenced by his older sister, The Lady of Rage, to explore the world of hip-hop. She was already making a massive impact on the hip-hop genre as her brother was growing up. Her passion for and influence on the industry were instantly imprinted on Eliot. Additionally, he was also influenced by American rapper and record producer, Scarface. Eliot and Scarface, born Brad Terrence Jordan, grew up in the same neighborhood and treated one another like family. The unique talents and motivation of Scarface and Eliot’s sister proved to be an effective guide for the younger artist to pursue his dream of becoming a hip-hop artist.
When he was in high school, his passion for writing poetry shifted his focus to writing rap music. And with a lot of hard work, he soon became a household name in the music industry. Going further into his career, he effectively and skillfully blends the styles of his hometown with the stories, struggles, and triumphs he experienced.
He has collaborated with some of the industry’s finest artists such as Paul Wall, Willie D, Daz Dillinger, Scarface, Devin the Dude, Luenell, and many more. He even got featured on mixtape projects with Wyclef Jean and Lil Jon. Taking notice of his great music, MTV and VH1 also featured his works on television. Eliot Ness also gains more exposure through social media outlets and live performances. He also promotes his music in clubs by introducing himself to the disc jockeys who work there.
As a hip hop artist, Eliot intends to use his music as a platform to reach out to those who feel like life has lost its meaning. He also wants to inspire anyone who dreams of making it to the industry someday. He reminds them to keep the faith and to believe in themselves and their music. A lot of his success can be attributed to the fact that he never stopped pushing himself. He always trusted that his efforts would soon pay off. And they did.
He always pours his heart out every time he creates music. More than the beat and the tune of his songs, he makes sure that he is also able to convey a message through them. His passion fuels him to continue with his work. He also strives to raise health awareness, especially regarding congenital heart disease and lupus. This music star brings hip hop under a whole different light.
Eliot Ness streams his songs on Spotify and Youtube, where you can listen to some of his biggest hits, including Small Time GMIX and Fast Lane.
