The famous French fashion designer Manfred Thierry Mugler died on Sunday, January 23, at age 73. He created work that many prominent celebrities wore and is now gone from this world too soon.
The designer’s death was announced on his social media accounts. Although, the cause of death was not publicly disclosed by any of the announcements.
A post on his Instagram account written in both French and English says, “#RIP We are devastated to announce the passing of Mr Manfred Thierry Mugler on Sunday January 23 2022. May his soul Rest In Peace.”
Casey Cadwaller, Mugler fashion line’s current creative director, honored Mugler on an Instagram post saying, “Manfred, I am so honored to have known you and to work within your beautiful world. You changed our perception of beauty, of confidence, of representation and self empowerment. Your legacy is something I carry with me in everything I do. Thank you.”
Born in 1948 in Strasbourg, France, Mugler trained at the Strasbourg School of Decorative Arts in interior design. He later entered the fashion world in 1971, during which he designed clothes for Karim.
By 26, Mugler had established his first personal collection, “Café de Paris” in 1973. The global debut of his Paris boutique led to an international following due primarily because he accentuated on broad-shouldered designs highlighting mid 20th-century styles.
In the ’80s and ’90s, Mugler became known for his innovative style that was ahead of its time. Demi Moore’s black dress in 1993’s “Indecent Proposal” and Kim K’s “wet look” in 2019’s MET Gala are among his most awe-inspiring looks.
Among the long list of Mugler’s clientele are Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Dianna Ross, Bella Hadid, and Miley Cyrus.
Even when he was at the peak of his career, icon Thierry Mugler never stopped exploring new opportunities. He developed a cosmetics line and also released several perfumes. He published a book as well, titled “Thierry Mugler: Fashion Fetish Fantasy.”
