Style & Society Magazine started as a dream of Kinya Claiborne. In deep contemplation, her vision was to launch a creative publication that would push forward covering the best of entertainment, fashion, lifestyle, food & drinks, travel, events, and philanthropy in the global scene and empowers black content creators. At that time, her dream remained to be a dream since she had a stable and well-paid job in the corporate firm. However, her dream to create and entertain was bigger than her current career. “Stepping out of fear and fully into faith, I left my consulting job at Metro + McKissack & McKissack after nearly a decade, to take the next steps in my career as a full-time entrepreneur and content creator,” she said after courageously taking a leap of faith.
Her vision to elevate her own community through creative publication came to fruition. Style & Society Magazine became a reality. As the founder and editor-in-chief of the said magazine, Kinya Claiborne currently manages a dynamic team of two-dozen team members worldwide. Along with her team, they were able to build their brand from scratch. Eventually, the online publication has gotten more popular and has become a gold standard for many media companies and content creators in Los Angeles and California. Living beyond its reputation, Style & Society Magazine provides an exclusive front-row view into the most exciting sought-after red carpet events, fashion must-haves, travel destinations.
Just as her online publication grew, her career skyrocketed as well. With her social media following growing by the day, Kinya became one of the sought-after influencers in Los Angeles. Her vast influence had resulted in more than 300,000 social media footprint. This led her to work with well-known brands such as Revolve, Thailand Tourism, Guess, Estee Lauder, Nike, Southwest Airways, Kate Somerville, Dunkin Donuts, Macy’s, Television Academy (Emmys), and Tadashi Shoji. Up to now, Kinya continues to create worthy contents that aim to educate and inspire people.
Her career as a full-time entrepreneur, content creator, and influencer garnered her numerous awards over the years. To name a few, she got nominated for the Los Angeles Business Journal (LABJ) Fashion Award in the Influencer/ Trendsetter category honoring top individuals who drive tremendous economic growth in Los Angeles. She also bagged the Entrepreneur of the Year award, honoring achievements by powerful women who make a difference throughout Los Angeles. Moreover, in 2018, Style & Society Magazine became the official media partner for Los Angeles Fashion Week, and Kinya herself was there to co-host the said event.
It is clear that Kinya Claiborne, by definition, is the modern version of an empowered woman. Her journey from the corporate world to the creative scene shows her tenacity in executing her dreams into action. Currently, Kinya is expanding on the brand’s success by launching Style & Society Group, a full-service boutique consulting agency. Driven by her core purpose of celebrating and empowering people of color, especially the Black Community, the agency specializes in strategic communications, community relations, event planning, creative services, and digital marketing. The aim is to help other brands, especially Black-owned, to be renowned and celebrated with confidence.
