Over the years, people have shown awareness that diversity and body positivity should be acknowledged within the modeling industry. Uribecastings, like many other agencies, have been working hard to let others hear their voice.
Uribecastings is a company that recruits models of all heights, shapes, and colors. They are an agency that strives to develop the newest and freshest faces in the modeling scene. To improve their skills, Uribecastings hold monthly photoshoots that build their confidence and add their portfolios. They also have weekly challenges that can enhance their skill in front of the camera to provide them the chance to step under the spotlight and give them a voice to encourage women everywhere that they can become models too.
The agency is unique for the challenges they set up. Every four months, they select five different premium models that range from XS to XL and give them the platform to represent their sizes. Uribecastings know the importance of body positivity and diversity, so they allow their models to show other agencies who haven’t followed this awareness that they exist.
Although Uribecastings mainly focus on women, they have recently started casting males too. They know the importance of male models and how most don’t get the credit they deserve. The agency wants to make a change and let people know that males have the potential to become models too.
The modeling agency was born from the mind of Brianna Uribe, who acts as the founder, creative director, and CEO of the company. Before she found herself in the modeling industry, Brianna was a video girl for some of the newest names of hip hop. She found herself under the spotlight when she was at a club one night and got discovered by a CEO who worked with New York Fashion Week, or NYFW, organizations, who came up and asked if Brianna had experience hosting a red carpet event or joining pageantries. Brianna’s experience in Miss Long Island 2020 gave her the credibility to get hired for the show. Her dream would come true when she got stopped by production on her way to National Geographic for NYFW. With her height, Brianna found herself living the dream of being a runway model.
Brianna would later be motivated to create Uribecastings after an incident earlier this year. She was getting styled by designers who were based in Africa for a show. It was the first time that she would walk for two designers, and while the first fitting went by without any trouble, the second fitting didn’t go so well. Brianna had been putting on a garment when it wouldn’t go past her thigh. The designer, in frustration, asked her to take off the piece. As she removed the garment, the designer turned to production and asked for a skinner model. Brianna would go home later that night and question her body. What was skinner? She asked herself. Despite the experience she had, the question lingered.
It was then that Brianna decided that the modeling industry was badly lacking diversity. She decided that she would change that and take aspiring, inexperienced, and plus-size models under her wing and develop them through Uribecastings.
