It isn’t uncommon for many people, both young and adults, to feel like outcasts in society. It is especially difficult for people who carry physical or intellectual disabilities. Hudson Rose is a blogger who understands the struggles of carrying a disability himself, and he wants others to know that there is a whole community out there to help others.
Throughout his life, Hudson has lived with cerebral palsy (CP), which affects his ability to move, maintain balance, and posture. Difficult as life is, having a disability makes things seem like playing a game at an extremely difficult level. Finding a job proves to be even more challenging as there are things that he cannot physically do.
Aware that he isn’t the only one struggling, Hudson decided to start a blog to discuss struggles and help others who share similar conflicts.
Before setting up his blog, Hudson conducted some research to help him understand how his site should run. He found that other bloggers with disabilities focused on accessibility issues, lifestyle, beauty, fashion, and travel. Hudson decided to take another approach and set his content to focus more on the psychological struggles of having physical and intellectual disabilities.
He titled his blog Openly Broken. There, he writes about how he overcame depression and his trial to make a living as a person with a disability. Hudson writes relatable content that he’s sure others can sympathize with. He shares how he’s learning to block out the voices that tell him he can’t do anything, and his hopes and dreams.
Apart from encouraging content, Hudson also discusses the silver linings of having a disability. Among them are the shorter lines at Disneyland, having a handicap sign, so he doesn’t have to walk as far, being able to use his wheelchair for longer distances, receiving discounted tickets or passes, making friends with the people who offer to push him on his wheelchair, being part of Best Buddies International, and being able to make a difference in the lives of others.
Hudson also writes about the lows that he encountered. He talks about what life is like with physical limitations and learning disabilities. He shares how it feels to have people make him feel like an outcast and how it seems that not many people take him seriously. Hudson also describes the struggle of finding a job. He also shares how it feels like forever to get dressed and ready for the day.
Many of the content Hudson writes about come from personal experience. He wants Openly Broken to be a site to comfort, encourage, and relate to other others who struggle with similar issues.
Hudson’s dream with Openly Broken is to build a community where he can share his thoughts and feelings without freaking other people out. He wants the community to be a place where other people can also have the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings. With Openly Broken, Hudson Rose hopes to advertise relevant products and sell merchandise with words of encouragement and quotes.
