There was a time when people became famous through television and media alone. However, the digital wave has ushered in a new era where almost anyone can become a celebrity with a single tap. Influencers have been taking the spotlight as their social media presence allows them to impact their followers. Among the thousands of influencers today in Jordan Boyd.
Jordan Boyd is a 24-year-old influencer who gained prominence through his Instagram. Unlike most influencers who only talk about their lifestyle, Jordan’s content mainly consists of basketball. Being a former overseas basketball player, he continues to pursue a professional career in the sport while also sharing content about fashion, fitness, and his Jeep.
Although there are thousands of athletic influencers on social media today, Jordan stands out for being more than just an athlete. He comes from a unique background, having been homeschooled for his entire life. Unlike most of his peers, Jordan was not offered the same opportunities that traditional students had. Whatever goal he wanted to achieve, Jordan had no one else to rely on but himself. The mindset was planted deep within him, and he carried it throughout the years to help shape and build his brand today.
Eventually, Jordan was able to experience a typical high school life. It was there that his love for basketball grew tenfold. Jordan knew that he wanted to build a career out of the sport, but when he turned 18, his parents shot him down and told him to grow up and be more realistic, that he had no future with basketball. Even worse was in the last game of his senior year when a girl who was also graduating came up to Jordan and told him they would have won more games if he didn’t play. By summer, his friends started mocking him and telling him he would never make it into a college team.
A year later, he tried out for a team at an NAIA college and received a scholarship. After training with them for three months, they wanted to redshirt Jordan, but his parents wanted nothing to do with a co-sign, forcing Jordan to de-commit. That same summer, a semi-pro coach offered him a spot in his team, and the outlook was promising. But Jordan saw that it slowly became a game of politics, which Jordan had no interest in. The coach took him off rotation, and Jordan left to work on himself. When he came back, Jordan gave the coach no reason not to play him. He would later take the rest of the year off.
Jordan came back, and his game had noticeably improved as he averaged 14 points a game. The future looked promising. However, things took a turn as more politics rolled in. This time, Jordan left the team for good. Despite how difficult life had been for him, Jordan’s luck came around as professional combines, overseas scouts, and coaches started reaching out to him.
Since then, Jordan Boyd has been inching closer to the life he always wanted. He uses his platform to motivate others to live their life to the fullest potential, regardless of where they came from.
