International Actor-Director Stephen Fung Spearheads Departed Apes Cinematic NFT Launch in NY

Stephen Fung took center stage in one of the most anticipated web 3.0 events in New York.

(NEW YORK, 20 July 2022) Countless NFT projects get launched into the landscape every day, but it’s not so often that it gets kicked off by an international filmmaking sensation. Cinematic NFT Departed Apes officially enters the blockchain space through the NFT.NYC, a leading NFT event organized in New York City annually, and the collection was officially launched by none other than international filmmaker Stephen Fung. The collection, as seen from the way it has been kicked off, is set to significantly impact the NFT world, setting the bar higher for other creators planning to launch their collections into the market.

Departed Apes is a collection of 8,027 characters stored on the Ethereum blockchain. The characters roam in the parallel universe of the internationally-acclaimed crime thriller Infernal Affairs. The Departed Apes collection boasts a unique art style executed by Marver Cover Artist Logan Lubera, who incorporated the unmistakable aesthetics of American comics.

As he officially leads the launching of Departed Apes, Stephen Fung also declared his newfound passion for digital artists and NFTs on stage during his speech, saying, “Revealing an NFT reminds me of opening a new toy on Christmas. Okay, I may be able to do this; I’m in the business of evoking emotions.” Incorporating a taste of nostalgia into his speech, Stephen Fung reminded everyone how exciting a new NFT collection could be. Departed Apes is jam-packed with unparalleled utility, making it one of the most sought-after projects in the digital space today. It represents the theatrics and showcases the creative vision of the creators behind the art, celebrating the highest form of artistry in NFTs.

Earlier this year, the filmmaker co-founded Grid6 Studios with Media Asia Group and Everest Venture Group. The company is recognized for its contributions across many fields, including film, television, and the advancement of blockchain technology. Grid6 bridges the gap between the entertainment industry, particularly Hollywood, and blockchain technology, bringing the much-needed cinematic and storytelling to the Web3.0 environment. The company is leading the Web3.0 investment space and recently participated in Dapper Labs, Animoca, the Sandbox, Yuga Lab, and many more.

“Our community is essential to us. We want to build a platform where aspiring directors, producers, writers, actors, critics, or movie fans would love. They can take part in a future milestone – Departed Apes animation feature. We will also be holding AMAs (Ask Me Anything) with accomplished guest speakers from all over the world,” said Stephen Fung.

Among the speakers for the AMAs is Daniel Wu, a household name in Asia. Daniel Wu has already attended the after-party hosted by Grid6 Studios in Manhattan, New York. The said after-party was also attended by over 200 collectors, investors, and movie enthusiasts.

Leading one of the most anticipated collection launches in the NFT landscape, Stephen Fung promises the Departed Apes community that there is more to come, from exclusive events to perks of ownership. Ending his memorable speech during the kickoff, the actor and director quoted a line from the bellowed American sports film Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come.”
