Humanity is beautiful and yet cruel at the same time, and to protect themselves, people have learned to adapt. They become less honest, a little bit less kind, less forthcoming, in order to mask that vulnerability so that others will not get the chance to take advantage of it. Nate Kest is deeply aware of this vulnerability and embraces it.
He integrates it into the music he writes in hopes that he will be able to call upon that vulnerability in people and create a connection. His brand of music is unique in that it serves as a testimony of his life and tells of the softer aspects of love, luxury, and allure.
Music of different genres has the ability to convey a multitude of stories and messages. Music can touch on stronger themes such as social issues, romance, heartbreak, and sex. It typically leans more into the darker aspects of these subjects, and the purer aspect of these are quite uncommon for songwriters to touch upon.
Free from pretentiousness and the need to put up walls, the music that Nate creates brings honesty and exposes the softer side of humanity and its emotions. While we all walk different paths in life, with different experiences of adversity and joy, we are all ultimately one in the vulnerability that each person possesses.
Looking at Nate from every angle, one will see that he is far from the typical artist in the hip-hop industry. His sound, look, and personality is all far from what is expected. With a family that is well-known in the yoga industry, he was raised in a very spiritual and warm household and is raised to be genuinely in touch and at peace with his emotions. With his daily meditation, he has an absolute peace of mind that allows him to write songs with such clarity and vulnerability.
He entered the world of music out of curiosity in his sophomore year in 2016. He had been under the notion that only professionals and famous people wrote songs, and he had been shocked to learn that such was not the case when one of his friends wrote a song and told him about it. He went to the studio for the first time to learn more about it and fell in love with the experience of making music. Since then, he just never really stopped, and now, at 21 years old, he continues to fall in love with his craft as he hones his skill in it.
His manager, Josh Bru, would tell him to “stop looking at the clock and watch the journey.” It has been five years since he started as a newbie with zero music knowledge and zero music know-how, and now he is inspiring more people with his music day by day. He hopes that by the end of another five years, his fan base will have grown substantially, and he will be making more positive changes in the music industry.
“Surrender yourself to your passion, and it will happen.” This is a reminder that Nate wants to tell everyone.
