When the renowned fashion queen and creator of Ebony Fashion Fair, Eunice Johnson, bought Stevie Edwards’ evening gowns to include them in her international fashion show, he felt ecstatic. He knew his hardwork in studying fashion design paid off when one of the most notable fashion icons displayed his pieces for a highly-regarded fashion show, which eventually lasted for over 50 years.
Named as “Black Designer on the Rise” in Ebony Magazine, Stevie is the fashion designer everyone should take note of. His works have been worn by famous entertainment personalities like Jody Watley, LisaRaye McCoy, Tiffany Haddish, and Terisa Griffin. The creative designer has also worked with some of Chicago’s most notable fashion designers like Barbara Bates, Keith Kendall, and Reginald Thomas.
Growing up, Stevie always knew he would be in the world of fashion design. He attended Dunbar High School, where he greatly focused on mastering the art and skill of tailoring. He continued his journey to the fashion world at The Illinois Institute of Art, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design. At this time, he had the opportunity to meet the late Eunice Johnson of Ebony and Jet magazines, which included his designs in her fashion fairs. This led to some of Stevie’s designs being featured in the Oprah Winfrey show.
He launched his brand, “I Luv Stevie,” in 2008, and since then, he has been catering to clients who are looking for unique, fashion-forward pieces perfect for upscale women, especially black women. His men’s collection was set to debut at LAFW IN March 2020, but with an unexpected world epidemic, that is on hold for now.
Stevie’s collections have been displayed in many essential fashion fairs and events such as New York Fashion Week, Urban Fashion Week in Miami, and Los Angeles Fashion Week. He will have his debut in the Paris Fashion Week this year. He has also been featured in many fashion publications like Vogue, Ebony, W, CIE Fashion Magazine, Hyde Park Herald, Miami Herald, and more.
As a rising fashion designer, he does not only create designs from his ideas. He also accommodates his clients’ very own designs and strives to give justice to these designs. What is unique about Stevie is that he is exceptionally hands-on when it comes to fashion design. Every design is cut and sewn by the passionate designer, himself. He invests the necessary time and effort into creating his fashion pieces. He works with his clients with a holistic approach taking into consideration their preferences and concerns.
Currently, his work studio sits in Hyde Park and is available through appointments only.
Stevie continues to pursue his journey in fashion design by catering to the fashion industry and those in need of fashion design services. He continues to make valuable pieces with a touch of Black fashion that iconic personalities have worn and paraded on famous shows. For this next big thing in the fashion world, nothing will stop him from reaching the top.
