The beauty of music lies in the fact that it is versatile in both its form and function. With a variety of genres and subgenres, the infinite list of instruments and accompaniments, plus a plethora of other contributing variables, each musical piece conveys different stories and messages. Nichelle Colvin is a multi-genre pop and soul musician from Gary, Indiana, who makes excellent use of music as a medium on which to tell stories about life and its ups and downs.
“I have a storyteller’s style of music. I’ve always liked to tell some sort of story or have a message in my music,” she said, with regard to her narrative songwriting. Her soulful voice and mastery over vocal control allow her to effectively evoke various emotions from the listeners as she sings about the emotional aspect of life’s journey.
The musician has multifaceted musical mastery influenced by a wide variety of artistic inspirations of different genres, and this quality of hers is practically paying her ticket to stardom. Her most prominent work, Nichelle’s Color Purple Soundtrack, has made a resounding success with a wide variety of audiences, but this release was a particular hit among bluegrass fans.
Nichelle’s Color Purple Soundtrack was executive produced and released under her current contract with the independent record label, SSGM Records. Under the same label, she has released “Infectious”, her recently-completed COVID-19 awareness track, and will be releasing “NCPSTP2”, which serves as a sequel to her soundtrack.
Nichelle Colvin has a passion for music that motivates her to work on new projects and subjects tirelessly, and with her constant exploration of the work of other artists, her musical style is ever-evolving. Her first venture into performance was when she channeled her God-given talents as she performed with the Rosa Jackson Youth Choir at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. By the time she was in her sophomore year, she had written three award-winning tracks. Hold On, Yahweh, and What Turns You On, each received a Billboard Award.
With a promising start to her career, she released her debut LP record titled Relations 1. Relations 1 was a hit as it sold out and became the catalyst to her first UK licensing deal on Street Culture Records. It was all uphill from there, as the release of her second record, Millenaire, would bring further attention to her as a rising artist. She would then get an offer from Cafedesoul Records, with whom she would sign and release her first compilation. Managing a compilation release with only two prior releases was a major feat, and thus Language of Love would find its place in Echoes Magazine.
The artist’s third record, Berkana, would lead to her first US record deal with Taste Record, with whom she is currently working with her latest record, Soulfully Yours, Nichelle. Her rapid rise in the ranks is evidence of the endless pool of potential that she is yet to fully tap into.
Nichelle Colvin has only one message for the masses: “You are entering a new realm with me. Let’s have some fun.” Learn more about her and her music on her website.
