Music labels remain to be an elemental force within the music industry. Some of the biggest names of the century come from labels that supported their rise to the charts. However, over the years, the prominence of streaming platforms has encouraged artists to enter the music industry independently.
But the observed number of musicians without labels is not only due to sites such as Spotify and Apple Music. For some of these independent artists, they were not able to find the perfect environment wherein they could grow and nurture their love for the art. In other cases, there was a mismatch between the artist’s choice of genre and the label’s preferences.
O.U.R. Brand Music, an independent music label and home to multiple stars on the rise, does not dictate the type of music that their artists opt to work on. Fans of urban, R&B, soul, pop, hip-hop, rap, and more can find their favorite musician among O.U.R. Brand Music’s line-up.
O.U.R. Brand Music or OBM is the brainchild of founders who believe in artistry amidst diversity. Founded in 2016 by Sean Bryant Jr., Michelle Tooles, and RaShawn Rusell, the label is a product of like-minded individuals — who shared the same artistic visions and goals of making their mark in the music industry — coming together.
“Collectively, we wanted a name that reflected our views, and one that could cater to all genres of music — not placed within a box of one type of sound. We believe all the artists we sign [and future signees] all have their own unique style that they bring to the table, and it is “OUR” job to help them get heard by the masses,” the minds behind OBM explained when asked how the label name came to be.
The label name could be looked at not just as a symbol of the founders’ promise to help their artists. It is also a mark for the principles that they stand for. O.U.R. Brand Music Label, as an entity, believes in and represents opportunity, unity, and respect in the context of the evolving music industry.
Currently, they have a multi-talented roster of artists who take pride in their sounds and are free to pursue their individual choice of music, one of which is the California-based Tay Y.U.N.G..
Originally hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, rapper, singer, and songwriter Tay Y.U.N.G. started writing rhymes of his own at age eleven. Being from the West Coast, he grew up soaked in the sounds of a prime Tupac Shakur, and it is only inevitable that he gravitated towards hip-hop.
He draws inspiration from old legends such as Scarface of the south and Big L/Craig Mack from the East Coast and from today’s icon, including J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, boogie, and Sy Ari Da Kid. And the eclectic melodies and urban-rooted hip-hop that best characterize his sound allow one to see how these great artists have influenced Tay.
In 2016, Tay released his debut project titled Guns Go Bang, and after a few more solid independent releases, his music would reach the ears of those at O.U.R. Brand Music Label, which he is now a part of.
Now backed by a label that gives him all-out support, Tay Y.U.N.G.’s goal of becoming a “YUNG” legend is coming into fruition. Tay unleashed a fury of releases that included multiple singles and 2 EPS, The Melted Heart Tape, and Still Melted. His most recent drop, Slide, was just a taste of more astounding music to come from this multi-talented artist.
With his unique melodies and impressive flows, he invites every listener to join him on his journey as he sings about real life, love, and everyday struggles. Stay updated about future incredible content from Tay Y.U.N.G. by visiting his Instagram and Facebook.
