During Black History Month, we celebrate more than history; we honor courage, resilience, and the continued evolution of Black excellence across every industry. In film and television, that responsibility falls to artists who understand that every role carries weight. For actor Titus Thorpe, storytelling is not just performance; it is preservation, truth, and forward movement.

Roles That Reflect the Black Experience

As a Black actor navigating today’s entertainment landscape, Titus sees his work as directly connected to representation and resilience. Many of the roles he has taken on were entrusted to him by Black directors and filmmakers committed to telling authentic stories rooted in the Black experience.

Projects such as Black Skin, Flint Tale, and A Day Of Trouble explore the injustices, struggles, and perseverance that have shaped generations. For Titus, these aren’t just scripts; they are reflections of lived reality.

“These opportunities were depictions of the Black plight,” he explains. “The injustices we have gone through and persevered through have enabled us to stand proud and fight with courage as a people.”

Through these portrayals, Titus contributes to a larger narrative, one that highlights survival, strength, and dignity in the face of systemic adversity.

Honoring the Blueprint Left Behind

Black History Month is not just a calendar observance for Titus; it is a moment of reflection.

Titus believes storytelling preserves Black history precisely because truth is finally being projected onto the screen.

“Most of the lies are coming to light,” he says. “The truth is being projected on film.”

In an era where narratives are being reexamined and reclaimed, actors like Titus are essential. Through performance, he helps correct distorted portrayals and ensures that stories of injustice, courage, and triumph are told authentically.

Connected to Culture Through Performance

“These particular roles demonstrated how we as a people have overcome injustices,” he explains.

To young Black creatives entering the industry, Titus offers clarity and encouragement:

Understand your roots. Study those who came before you. Move with pride and dignity. Build on the blueprint, but do not be afraid to add your own chapter.
