Kristian Duncan is a fast-rising emerging artist in the music industry, breaking out on the independent circuit. The newest name in the industry has been blessing listeners with his R&B music.
As a youth, Kristian found his unique voice when he joined the church choir. He found the inspiration to join from watching Bobby Jones’ gospel program on BET. While it was his primary inspiration, Kristian also listened to artists from the ’80s and ’90s like New Edition, Ready for the World, H-Town, Jon B, Jodeci, and Keith Sweat, among many others.
In the early 2000’s Kristian joined an R&B performance group called Same Difference. Things didn’t work out, and Kristian left the group eventually, moving on to new ventures. Kristian Duncan began to work behind the scenes in the music industry. He worked as a promoter where he booked shows for artists, promoted night clubs, and became an independent promoter.
Kristian had the opportunity to promote for H-Town and Job B, two of his musical inspirations, along with Soul for Real, CeCe Peniston, and Troy Ave, to name a few. During this venture, Kristian started to get back into music. Working with them slowly sparked Kristian’s desire to record music again.
With his experience in the industry and knowledge, Kristian worked on producing his music. He wanted to inspire the next generation with the knowledge he gained from the music industry over the years. Kristian started his independent label called Duncan Group, where he released his debut single, “Success,” followed by “Andale.”
The song “Success” talks about his triumphs over his personal struggles and trials in life. In the song, he describes how depression and anxiety brought a dark period into his life. Kristian talks about his life spiraling down and how he sank low. He decided to seal himself off from his family and friends as he reached the point of giving up on life.
Kristian found his saving grace through Sharon. He met her in a time when depression took over his life and drinking and taking pills held a firm grip on him. One day, a friend told him that he needed to go out, something he had reservations about. He gave in and decided to go out. They arrived at a nightclub and spent most of the night by the bar, drinking until closing time.
Like a scene out of a movie, Kristian spotted a girl from across the room as people walked to the exit. As she walked by, he knew he had to introduce himself. She walked him out to his friend’s vehicle and exchanged numbers. From there, he turned his life around and attributed his success to God’s plan and introduction to Sharon.
This August 2020, Kristian released the music video to “Success” on his YouTube channel. The video received praise from his peers and fans. Today, Kristian is working in his studio with plans to release an EP in 2021.
