Some of life’s circumstances can either be inspiring or downright painful. For a child who goes through traumatic and confusing events, the results can be both damaging and catastrophic. Aspiring entrepreneur Rico Richardson was separated from his mother and siblings at the young age of 6 as she was locked up for reasons he could not reconcile at his age. While Richardson carried the burden of being passed around from one family to another growing up, he realized that hatred should have no room in his life.
While under the custody of the government, Richardson went through a total of 35 homes and also committed 35 different crimes. While he was growing up, he felt so lost and longed so much for the presence of his loving mother. Her absence, however, triggered so many bad behaviours in him. Later in life, he would realize that he was better off taking the higher road than keeping hatred in his heart.
Richardson struggled with hatred in his heart for most of his young and adult life. He blamed the government and the system for separating him from his family. There was no one to comfort him, make him feel secure, and make him understand the reality of his situation. For Richardson, the world simply rejected his hardworking mother and did not give her a chance to make a better life.
He lived a difficult life and had a hard time moving forward as he continued to long for his mother. In an ideal world, no child should have gone through what he experienced. He went through different forms of abuse and mental manipulation. But nobody has control of how circumstances unfold in life. In time, Richardson realized that he had a choice: to continue to wallow in his state of pain and discontent or rise up and make the most of his life.
Fortunately, Richardson chose the latter and is now in the process of offering an extraordinary apology to his community and the world through his T-shirt company called R.O.S.E.
R.O.S.E. is Richardson’s passion project, a way to reach out to people so he can start connecting with them. By putting out a message of hope, love, and peace, he intends to give inspiration to people who feel like life is no longer worth living. He is particularly concerned about the rising cases of suicide in the country brought about by various issues. He hopes to be a beacon of light during a dark time.
His life experiences taught him empathy toward those who are also suffering. He may not have the right words to say, but what he can offer is a genuine relationship that will not be compromised by money or fame. For Richardson, taking this second chance in life is his way of honoring the beautiful memories he has of his mother. Their family life may not have been perfect, and she may no longer be here to witness his life-altering initiative, but he knows he can still make her proud by making a difference in the lives of others.
Rico Richardson is in the process of making peace with his past and looks forward to a promising and productive future by building lasting and authentic relationships with people. He believes that his down-to-earth and kind nature will carry him through successfully.
