Rising model and actress Shaunté Monét was at the prime of her career when she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer that required intensive treatment. Determined not to let cancer rob her of her dream to become a well-respected model and actress, she went through chemotherapy, still focused on going back to her passion as soon as she completed it. Unknown to her, the whole journey carried with it challenges she was unprepared to face, and it is for this reason that she recently launched her YouTube channel, H.E.R. 2, to motivate women who are going through the same thing.
Too many things changed in Shaunté Monét’s personal life from the time she was diagnosed until she started getting her chemotherapy. She had to give up socializing routines that she was so used to doing as she no longer had the energy to do them. If there is something that she realized significantly during the duration of her treatment, it is that having a strong support group makes all the difference. Through her YouTube channel, she hopes to give women like her an idea of what to expect when they are going through chemotherapy and be able to prepare themselves emotionally and psychologically for the intense experiences that will follow.
“I started this Youtube channel because while going through chemo, appointments, hair loss, radiation, etc., I really wish I had someone who could tell me what was in store for me instead of Google or hearing it from my doctor. I wanted to hear it from a real person with personal experience. This is when my Youtube channel Fighting H.E.R. 2 was created. I used this same platform to finally disclose to my friends and family that I had breast cancer since I had never told anyone yet,” shares Shaunté Monét.
Born Shaunté Monét Smith, together with her identical twin sister, the 26-year-old model was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. She has had the privilege of modeling creations in LA’s Fashion Week and other brands that include Lord and Taylor and David’s Bridal in their annual runway show. The cancer survivor was also featured on the website of Queen Carte Cosmetics wearing their best seller, the Tres Chic mink eyelashes.
To prepare for her career, Shaunté Monét trained with Rio Summers, America’s Next Top Model winner in the show’s 24th cycle. Additionally, most of her training when she was just starting out came from John Casablanca’s Modeling and Acting Agency. As a committed professional model and aspiring actress, she has always believed in the value of constant improvement to be successful in the industry. She also strongly believes that maintaining a positive attitude is vital, especially now that she is making a comeback after chemotherapy.
On top of her modeling and acting projects in the future, Shaunté Monét wants to continue her advocacy to help empower women with breast cancer to fight and never give up on their dreams. She already has a line up of projects coming in, but keeping her YouTube channel informative and encouraging is one of her top priorities.
Shaunté Monét looks forward to one day becoming the face of high fashion brands. She will not only be an epitome of beauty, but also of strength, hope, and perseverance.
