Los Angeles has always been a city of dreams, where countless talents have emerged to shine on the global stage. Among them, cinematographer Shubham Gosalia, a boy from the land of Bollywood, is capturing the essence of Tinseltown’s magic with each frame he creates.

Gosalia’s latest endeavor, the short film “As Far As We Know,” co-written and directed by the man himself, is generating a palpable buzz as it has gotten recognition in Kent and Cannes film awards.

In an exclusive interview for LA Wire, Gosalia revealed his inspiration for the film “As far as we know’  came to him from a friend who happened to be a scriptwriter. “He presented a brief storyline initially titled “Sweet Boy.” This story resonated with me because modern movies often categorize characters as either “good guys” or “bad guys,” overlooking the complexities of human nature. This film delves into the gray areas of life that challenge the conventional black-and-white narratives we’re accustomed to seeing in movies”.

“Our aim is to shed light on how overprotective parents can sometimes overlook their child’s imperfections, and how external perspectives can profoundly affect our lives.” Gosalia added.

Gosalia advocates cinematography to be the pinnacle of filmmaking and highlighting its importance is very crucial. Continuing to speak about his short film “As Far As We Know” Gosalia further told LA Wire that “as a cinematographer and director, I firmly believe that visual emotion and sound score are the pillars of any film. We’ve meticulously synchronized our shots with the sound score to evoke strong emotional responses from the audience. Our decisions were motivated by enhancing the performance and emotions of the characters. To capture challenging and emotionally draining scenes, we employed a two-camera setup, ensuring we obtained the best performances from our talented actors.”

Gosalia believes that “As Far As We Know, has a compelling story that many people will connect with. We’ve already received confirmations of selections in multiple film festivals and even won a few awards. With many more festivals on the horizon in the coming months, we are confident that this film will have a strong presence in the industry and enhance our resumes.” said Gosalia when asked about his hopes for his Short Film.

Casting was a crucial part of this project. As Gosalia described to LA Wire exactly how he casted the members. “We began by casting Laura, also known as The Ex-girlfriend in the film. We were looking for an actress who could convey a sweet demeanor with underlying emotional baggage, and Aubrey Postier perfectly embodied this character.

Next, we needed the right actress to portray Carla, the mother, who had to authentically express love for her son and believe in his goodness. Lynda Gatlin proved to be an amazing choice due to her natural acting skills.

Finding the ideal actor for Ben Davis, the father, was initially challenging. We were seeking someone who could portray a soft yet pushy character with a fatherly touch. Eventually, we discovered David Warpness, who fit the role perfectly”

Having grown up in the vibrant streets of Mumbai, his journey to the heart of Hollywood was an easy transition. Graduating from the prestigious New York Film Academy, over the past five years, Shubham Gosalia has boldly pushed the boundaries of visual storytelling. His attention to detail and innate ability to stir emotions through his lens have earned him a reputable status in the world of cinematography.

One of his standout achievements includes a mesmerizing advertising campaign for the blockbuster hit “Frozen 2”, featuring none other than the illustrious Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Parineeti Chopra. This masterpiece has captured the hearts of audiences around the globe, solidifying Gosalia’s status as a true visionary.

But his talents extend beyond the silver screen. Gosalia has made an indelible mark in the music industry, crafting beguiling music videos that elevate the art form to new heights. Collaborating with renowned artists such as Siddhant Bhosle, Anne Reburn, Oceans Away, and Sir Boyo makes for Gosalia’s stunning debut as an up and coming Cinematographer.

“The movie industry is constantly evolving, and I am thrilled to utilize my expertise and knowledge to collaborate with the top studios in the field. Our joint efforts will result in unforgettable experiences that will leave audiences in awe worldwide,” proclaims Gosalia.

In a city brimming with talent, Shubham Gosalia is undoubtedly a name to watch. As he readies himself to make a resounding impact on the world of entertainment, LA Wire keeps a vigilant gaze on this rising star.
