Spencer Kiel is a marketing genius with a love for music that’s driven him to succeed beyond imagination. An entrepreneur by heart and practice, he takes his craft seriously. Today, he’s the go-to guy for many rappers and singers who are looking to create a name for themselves in the industry.
Spencer, also known as Swishh, owns and runs Swishh Music, a music marketing company that helps musicians and rappers build an online presence and get more fans through platforms like Instagram, Soundcloud, and Spotify. He’s one of the best in his field, but his success did not come easy.
The marketing maven’s story began in July 2017, when he decided to drop out of college as a freshman to start his own business. He realized that if he wanted to pursue his dreams as an entrepreneur, he had to learn outside of the school system. In 2018, he first took on a job in sales and quickly rose to a managerial position, outperforming his co-workers. After he had a solid grasp of sales, he quit his job and went straight to work on his first venture.
Spencer’s first business was an eBay store. At about the same time, the businessman started rapping and mixing music. He took on some debt to hire help and scale his online eBay store. He would spend most of his extra time in studios recording tracks with other rappers.
But in February 2019, the unthinkable happened to Spencer and his business. His site got shut down for an unknown reason, and after being denied an appeal to reopen his store, Spencer found himself unemployed with nearly forty thousand dollars of debt to pay off.
Spencer was determined to stay out of employment, so he turned his passion for music into his next business venture. Swishh soon began working with rap artists as an audio engineer and as his skills grew, so did the demand for his services.
Unfortunately, the money Swishh was making from audio engineering wasn’t enough to pay his bills so he decided to take on a day job at Amazon to support his side hustle. He would work nine-hour and ten-hour shifts delivering packages, and often finished as many as two marketing books per day before clocking out. When he’d come home from work, he’d spend the rest of his waking hours building his music business.
In July 2019, two years after he had dropped out of college, Spencer started getting attention on soundcloud. Three months later, he created an Instagram page for his business. That’s when his music marketing career started to take form. One of the rappers he worked with, Noza Jordan, got signed to OTF records and from that day forward, Spencer began to stack win after win. Rappers by the thousands started coming to Spencer for marketing advice.
In March 2020, Spencer negotiated a deal with Audiu, also known as Repost Exchange, a platform that accelerates audience growth for musicians. This deal was icing on the cake to Spencer’s already impressive music business. The following month, after hitting 10k Instagram followers, Spencer quit his day job to work on Swishh Music full-time.
Since then, Spencer has kept himself busy, working with rappers & producers to grow their audiences and reach. Today, the marketing expert is using his skills to help musicians all over do what they love for a profit, teaching them how to monetize their tracks and expand their reach.
