When you think of luxury, it often conjures images of exclusivity, extravagance, and opulence. But for Darian Terrell, the founder of Éminent—the French-Vintage Modern Jewelry Company—luxury is more than just a price tag or aesthetic; it’s an art form, a cultural statement, and a tool for empowerment. At the recent BET Uncut Experience by Raw Nation, Darian’s presence wasn’t just felt—it was seen, heard, and admired.
A Standout at the BET Uncut Experience
“The most impactful moments happen when people are humble and approachable,” Darian said of the BET Uncut Experience. While the event was packed with stylish creatives and bold personalities, it was the balance of humility and high energy that left a lasting impression on him. “The entertainment industry is the perfect platform to share a meaningful message and make an impact,” he added. “Luxury should also be an expression of art—of one’s true self. That’s why our slogan is ‘Discover a brighter you, give the gift of Éminent.’”
Bold Authenticity in a Loud Industry
Darian’s journey into luxury branding began with deep self-reflection. “I debated for months whether I was too bold or too much to be the face of my own company. But then I realized—that’s exactly what the industry needed,” he explained. “Helping people find who they truly are and wear it loud and proud is the mission.”
This ethos is what aligns his brand so seamlessly with platforms like BET. “BET is about bold expression and authenticity—exactly what Éminent represents,” he said.
Luxury Is Cultural
As a tastemaker and consultant, Darian believes luxury must intersect with cultural identity and real human connection. “Understanding your audience from a sociocultural lens is key,” he emphasized. “Luxury consumers aren’t just buying a product—they’re embracing a lifestyle that reflects their values, backgrounds, and aspirations.”
Despite being naturally introverted, Darian makes it a point to engage with the community. “You can’t truly understand people’s needs from the sidelines. I don’t strive for comfort—I strive for understanding.”
The Art of the Jewelry Consultation
When it comes to working with public figures or brands, Darian doesn’t dive straight into aesthetics. “I spend most of my time in the discovery stage. I want to understand how thoughtful someone is with their image, what it means to them, and why,” he explained. “I look for people who are as intentional with their image as they are with their purpose.”
And while style changes, authenticity doesn’t. “I ask clients questions that help uncover their story so I can design jewelry that speaks to who they are, not just what they wear.”
Meaningful Collaborations Over Transactions
For Darian, partnerships must go deeper than business. “I watch how someone treats their staff, their family, how they respond under pressure,” he said. “Morals have to weigh more than money. The wrong person under the right pressure will always choose profit over principle. I can’t build with people like that.”
That mindset has led to powerful collaborations where community impact, cultural pride, and luxury coexist.
Elevating Representation in Black Luxury
Growing up in a multicultural household—half Cuban-Muslim from Tucson, with African American, Latino, Italian, and German roots—Darian pushes back against outdated narratives that paint luxury as something reserved for the few. “I was taught that luxury was sinful or off-limits to people who looked like me. I strongly disagree. Luxury is a gift, and we deserve to enjoy it.”
BET Weekend events like Raw Nation’s Uncut Experience, he says, normalize expressions of Black excellence and joy. “These are safe spaces where we can be unapologetically ourselves—and that’s powerful.”
Jewelry With a Story
In a world where red carpets and press events demand visual impact, Darian advises entertainers to choose statement pieces with substance. “Don’t just follow trends—work with a designer who listens to your story and builds a look that elevates your identity,” he said. His clients go through a jewelry quiz and personalized consultation to ensure every piece has intention behind it.
One such experience involved designing custom engagement rings for a client who was overwhelmed and unsure. “After a couple of thoughtful revisions, we created a matching floral gold set that blew them away. I even partnered with Mountain America Credit Union to offer financing options. The couple was so happy they became Éminent members for life.”
Dream Collaborations & What’s Next
When asked who’s on his dream list, Darian doesn’t hesitate: “Tyler Perry, 50 Cent, Cardi B, Teyana Taylor, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and even luxury brands like Rolls-Royce, Mercedes, and Marriott. I want to work with people who are storytellers at heart.”
He’s also eyeing more charitable events, fashion runways, and boutique partnerships. “I’m expanding into modeling, acting, art exhibits, and luxury events. From Hollywood to the Midwest—I’m building a legacy that will outlast trends.”
