Everybody knows the saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Given this, people have different standards on what makes something beautiful, and there are different ways to enhance natural beauty. One of the widely used techniques is makeup, and Star Bahati aims to master the craft.
Applying makeup is like painting using the face as a canvas; eyeshadow, lipstick, mascara, and foundation are the counterparts of acrylic and oils. With the right skills and accumulated experience in the craft, Star creates masterpieces in every face she beautifies.
Star is a strong black woman, from a family of successful self-made entrepreneurs, with her brother, Rahsaan Bahati, a professional cyclist, her sister as a professional dancer, and another brother, a world-renowned DJ, with the stage name DJ SB Shakir Bahati.
After training at Los Angeles Trade Technical College of Cosmetology, this makeup artist extraordinaire accumulated 23 years of experience in the industry. She also attended training workshops from big makeup brands such as MAC Cosmetics, Estée Lauder, and Prescriptive all in the Beverly Center.
Star Bahati paved her way in her journey in the industry of beauty. She was chosen to do hair and makeup of notable celebrities such as Nichelle Nichols, from the Star Trek television series, and Tami Roman on her hit show under VH1, Basketball Wives, from seasons one to six.
Other than that, as a full-time freelance makeup artist, she has done hair and makeup for TV One’s R&B Divas Season 2 and VH1’s Love and Hip Hop: Hollywood Season 2. In addition to these, her expertise is also in demand for multiple music videos, independent films, and commercials. She was also the makeup artist on the Black Family Channel’s television show, Global Cinema TV, and worked on corporate advertising photoshoots with Trillium Hospital.
Aside from being a gifted artist, Star Bahati is also a businesswoman. When she was managing Sephora, she helped open the Santa Monica store. After discovering her skills in the business world, she gave birth to her own business, Star 4 Makeup, Inc.
In 2001, Star decided to expand her reach and moved to Koln, Germany, to work for international acts from the United States. As she continuously improves her skills, she applies all the things she learns in all her projects. In exploring techniques when doing makeup for weddings, special events, commercials, and TV shows, she widens her knowledge and increases her mastery level for the craft.
She doesn’t want to keep all these learnings for herself; Star then decided to establish her cosmetic line while building a trade school. The trade school will specialize in teaching the skills needed to become a makeup artist to at-risk girls. Indeed, there is no stopping this woman from shining and lighting the paths of young girls and aspiring artists.
Star Bahati is passionate about making people feel good about themselves using makeup and her artistic prowess. There is no doubt, and the future’s looking bright for Star, an outstanding makeup artist and businesswoman.
