People want to make it big in this world, but they usually don’t know how they can do that. For Steven Jordan, he has always known how.
Steven has always been an entrepreneur at heart, having mowed lawns and pressure washing for as long as he can remember. His first business after college had him working in an insurance firm where they focused on using whole life insurance as a long term investment and banking strategy. While that business provided him with a great learning experience, he and his business partner decided to part ways.
He knew he still needed to pay bills, but at the same time, he wanted to keep enough time to study. He used what time he had to focus on learning from several mistakes he made with the insurance business. Steven was aware that one of his weaknesses was Marketing & Advertising, and he decided to make it a strength.
Mike, a high school friend, contacted Steven. He told him how his family was working in the cabinet industry, mainly focusing on Cabinet Refinishing, and he wanted Steven to join them. Although Steven wasn’t sure what it was, he was curious enough to give it a shot.
Steven knew he was going to start his own business again but remained unsure of what that business would be. He was in his research phase when Mike contacted him. He thought it would be a great job at the time while he was searching for his next business venture.
It was about a year working with them and contributing to the improvements that Steven realized Cabinet Refinishing might be the opportunity he was looking for. The small business of changing or restoring existing cabinetry may have seemed to generate a small income for newcomers, including Steven. However, he found that the business he was working with, Espresso Finishes, was generating hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for painting cabinets.
When he first started working for them, one job would take as long as one week to complete. After a year, Espresso was finishing two to three kitchens per week. Steven wanted to keep improving the business, but because it wasn’t his, he knew there would only be so much that he could do.
Eventually, Steven found it was more sensible for him to start his own operation. He spoke with Mike and decided to part ways. Out of respect, he committed to never competing with them.
Steven created Elite Cabinet Coatings, LLC, and moved across the state to Orlando. It took a couple of years of hard work and consistency for the business to grow, but they were able to make it. Elite Cabinet Coatings started to earn up to seven figures, complete works for five kitchens every week, with entire weeks booked out for two months in advance.
From their success, Steven re-approached Espresso Finishes in Tampa and discussed with them the opportunities that existed, acquiring 100% equity, allowing them to offer their services in Tampa and the rest of Central Florida.
Because many people were never aware that home service businesses could earn as much as six figures, Steven made it a mission to raise awareness to other entrepreneurs. He has created Cabinet Startup, LLC, to teach people everything they need to know to set up their own Cabinet Refinishing businesses. To know more, visit his website or follow Steven’s Instagram account.
