On June 20, as the solstice heralded the first day of the new season, Korshun Art Projects Gallery threw a Summer Cocktail Party that could only be described as a masterclass in joie de vivre. Curated by the inimitable Anna Korshun, the event shone a spotlight on the Ukrainian artist Natalia Brichuk, or Notuko to her aficionados. This soirée was a testament to the transformative power of art, culture, and resilience in the face of adversity.
Founded by the ever-charismatic Anna Korshun, Korshun Art Projects Gallery swiftly becomes a beacon of artistic excellence and cultural preservation. With a mission to spotlight both emerging and established artists, the gallery delves into themes of identity, heritage, and resilience, fostering a deeper appreciation for diverse cultural narratives. Anna’s curatorial prowess has brought to life exhibitions like “Echoes of the Steppes,” featuring contemporary interpretations of traditional Ukrainian landscapes, and “Voices Unheard,” a showcase of Ukrainian women artists exploring themes of voice and visibility. Each exhibition is a testament to the gallery’s commitment to celebrating the rich cultural tapestry of Ukraine and beyond.
As guests arrived at the Summer Cocktail Party, they were greeted by a gallery transformed into a sanctuary of creativity. The evening spotlighted the works of Natalia Brichuk, known as Notuko. The gallery’s walls were draped in her captivating canvases, each one a symphony of Ukrainian folk motifs and abstract brilliance. Conversations buzzed around the room as guests, cups of champagne in hand, marveled at the intricate details and bold strokes that define Notuko’s oeuvre. The air was thick with the aroma of summertime,, an olfactory delight that perfectly complemented the visual feast on display. It was a night where art lovers were not just spectators but participants in a celebration of creativity and elegance.
The pièce de résistance of the evening, apart from the garelly itself, was the unveiling of Notuko’s magnum opus, ‘Women.’ This evocative painting, a tapestry of family, culture, and the Ukrainian spirit drew gasps and hushed whispers. The central female figure, tenderly embracing a goat and a young girl, symbolized fertility, rural sustenance, and the nurturing roles integral to Ukrainian life. The expressive colors and abstract forms added an emotional depth, evoking warmth, security, and continuity – a poignant reminder of the familial and cultural bonds that Notuko herself longed for in her youth.
Notuko’s art, a rebellion against the erasure of Ukrainian traditions and culture, stood as a reclamation of marginalized heritage. Her works, populated with symbolic figures and animals, represent both her personal journey and a collective quest to reclaim historical narratives and ancestral roots. The evening’s guests, captivated by the depth and poignancy of Notuko’s works, found themselves transported into a world where art and identity are inextricably linked.
As the evening wore on, guests indulged in more champagne and oysters, their conversations now mingling with reflections on the rich cultural tapestry woven by Notuko’s art. This celebration was an invitation to explore intertwined tales – an artist’s odyssey of self-discovery and a nation’s enduring spirit. It was a night of collective rediscovery, where the resilience of Ukraine shone like a beacon, illuminating a path to a brighter, more hopeful tomorrow.

Anna Korshun, the visionary behind the gallery, has always been passionate about showcasing the depth and breadth of Ukrainian art. Her dedication to promoting cultural heritage through contemporary art has made Korshun Art Projects a vital part of the artistic community. Anna’s ability to bring together artists and audiences in meaningful dialogue is what sets her gallery apart. Her commitment to celebrating and preserving cultural identity is reflected in every exhibition and event she curates.
In true Korshun style, the Summer Cocktail Party at the gallery was a celebration of art, culture, and the indomitable human spirit. It was an evening that left everyone inspired and uplifted, their hearts and minds forever touched by the powerful narratives encapsulated in the art on display. This party was also the kickoff to a nomadic element of the project, where Anna, alongside others, is planning to host fabulous events in new locations, but that is to be revealed in the near future.
