Rap music has a history of telling stories about society. Throughout the years, it has been used as a vehicle of expression. Whether it is used for calling out the ills of our society or banding people together for a cause, the genre of music has been one filled with purpose. SWB carries on that mantle of purposeful rap. He does so in hopes of spreading his message and making his valuable voice be heard by millions.
Born in Massachusetts, SWB started writing songs and recording his own music as a way to call out people he had issues with. One could say that his musical journey all began from a diss track, and then he followed it up with another one, and another one, and the rest is history. His tracks eventually garnered a lot of attention from his community.
As early as his college days, SWB managed to push his music career further through collaborations, the release of a mixtape, and even some live performances. The trajectory of his success couldn’t be any clearer. In 2018, he received his Master’s Degree in Global Entertainment and Music Business from Berklee College of Music. From then on, he has been using his music as a means to spread his message to his audience.
SWB expresses that he was heavily influenced by his father’s rise to success, from poverty to becoming the CEO of a large corporation. He often cites the mindset of determination and perseverance as a theme in his music. SWB has also addressed pressing social issues such as racism, sexual assault, and alcoholism, among many others.
He has a distinct and diverse style that goes far beyond the common party tracks that seem to pervade the current musical landscape. In his upcoming EP Last Words, SWB addresses his father’s story, police brutality, pedophilia in America, and calling out people from the past. Each beat on his brand-new EP is as catchy as the next one. His music packs a strong and powerful message without sacrificing the artistry that comes along with music production, mixing, and mastering.
SWB aims to establish his own entertainment venue in the future. He dreams of opening his very own bar or nightclub that provides people with an immersive experience while also giving up-and-coming DJs and musical artists a platform and a venue to get their music out there. He firmly believes that there is so much undiscovered talent out there in the world; they just need the right opportunity to be heard.
SWB stands by his personal brand of genuine and unfiltered music. He is the type of musician that doesn’t pull any gimmicks. He’s just doing his own thing and standing by what he believes in. He consistently strives to improve himself and hone his talents in music. “No matter how good you get at something, you should still be highly critical of yourself. You should always want to do better. I feel this way strongly about making music but also everything in life.”
