We all want to be seen as high status, but many people often focus on bragging rights (although a bit of swagger never hurts anyone). Being seen requires attracting the right opportunities, building a killer network, and living on your terms.
Achieving high status comes down to three essential factors:
1. Social Proof
Social media can be a powerful tool, but let’s be honest – a few measly likes will not cut it. Think of your Instagram like a billboard – it needs to showcase what makes you a high-value man.
Here’s the key: authenticity. Don’t be a copycat. If you’re an artist, flaunt your work. But go beyond static paintings. Show the sweat behind the masterpiece – the creation process, the raw emotion you pour into it. Capture people’s reactions to your art. This creates a narrative of your talent in action. This is actual social proof – it builds a sense of “gravity” around you, attracting the right kind of attention.
Social proof goes beyond the digital world, too. Networking events and conferences are opportunities to build genuine connections. Show your competence, engage in conversations, and leave a lasting impression. People remember the guy they enjoyed talking to, not the one who bragged about his follower count.
All this social proof generation boils down to one thing – your value. If you have something valuable to offer, social proof will naturally follow.
2. Lack of Reactivity
Don’t sweat the small stuff. High-status men don’t get caught up in petty drama or lose their cool over trivial matters. Imagine a guy freaking out about a negative comment on his Instagram. Stay calm, stay collected, and project confidence. This doesn’t mean being a robot. Measure your responses and exude a sense of control.
If you have money worries, keep them to yourself. High-status guys don’t brag about their finances, nor do they complain about them publicly. They maintain a sense of confidentiality and focus on building wealth or fixing it, not broadcasting it. The same goes for gossiping about others. It shows insecurity and a lack of class. Elevate yourself, and don’t bring others down.
3. Competence is King (But Don’t Skip Networking)
This might seem obvious, but it’s worth repeating: be good at what you do. There’s no substitute for competence. It breeds confidence, allowing you to tackle challenges with a “can-do” attitude, and ultimately makes you an attractive proposition in any field. Constantly aim to improve your skills, learn new things, and become the best version of yourself.
Competence is one thing, and network is another. Build connections with the right people. This isn’t about sucking up or being a schmoozer. It’s about finding people who share your values and aspirations. The right network can open doors to incredible opportunities you might not have found alone.
My golden rule is, “You have to have value to offer value.”
As you grow within yourself and in your career, figure out how to balance constant improvement with strategic networking. Competence attracts opportunities, and a strong network connects you with the right people to seize them.
Be Authentic, Be Valuable, Be You
Building high status is about more than just shortcuts or just the facades. It’s about cultivating genuine strength and becoming a magnet for opportunity. People are drawn to those who are confident, competent, and bring value to the table.
So, ditch the fake flexing and focus on commanding respect and attracting the right kind of attention. Be the guy people want to know, the guy they want on their team, and the guy who inspires others to be their best selves. Remember, confidence is attractive, and authenticity is the ultimate flex.
