The MD Revolutionizing Men’s Health

For men, achieving optimal health can sometimes require surgical intervention. Improving heart health, for example, may involve the insertion of a stint; moles or other skin lesions may be surgically removed to guard against cancer. In general, going under the knife at some point is not unusual for men who are committed to caring for their health.

Dr. James J. Elist is a urologist based in Beverly Hills who has helped thousands of men improve their health with a unique surgical procedure that involves a revolutionary penile enlargement implant. Dr. Elist, who specializes in impotency, male sexual dysfunction, and enlargement procedures, invented the FDA-cleared penile implant, which is known as Penuma.

“In creating Penuma, the goal was to help men boost their confidence in the bedroom and in life,” Dr. Elist says. “I want to see men have the self-assurance to enjoy each day to the fullest and build satisfying relationships. Penuma helps men to achieve that.”

The importance of sexual health

Taking steps to improve sexual health has the potential to impact men in a number of ways. In the area of physical wellness, studies have shown that improving sexual health results in a number of benefits, including a stronger immune system, lower blood pressure, and a lower risk of heart disease and prostate cancer.

Improving sexual health also has benefits in the area of emotional health. A satisfying sex life, which is a key component of sexual health, results in regular releases of serotonin, a chemical produced in the body that fights depression. Oxytocin, a hormone that is known to reduce stress levels, is also released during physical intimacy.

The benefits men experience from Penuma go beyond increasing physical and emotional health to also help men overcome the challenges that can affect their relational health.

“You are more likely to relax and enjoy your sex life when you feel good about yourself — the way you look and the impression your appearance has on your partner,” explains Dr. Elist. “When you are confident, you communicate better with your partner, which results in a more satisfying sexual experience for both of you. Confidence also reduces anxiety and negativity, which results in improved sexual self-esteem.”

An enhancement that is saving lives

Healthy sexuality is an important component of a healthy relationship. When relationships fail, a lack of sex is often cited as a top reason. For some, a broken relationship can lead to dangerous levels of depression.

“Failed relationships, especially when intimacy problems are involved, can be very damaging for your self-esteem,” shares Dr. Elist. “When a lack of sexual satisfaction leads to a broken relationship, doubt takes the place of self-esteem, which can lead to depression. There have been cases in which men in that position have considered suicide before turning to therapy first and possibly an implant as a solution. I think it’s true to say that there are people alive today because of our attention to this matter.”

Many of Dr. Elist’s patients have shared testimonials about the ways that Penuma has changed their lives for the better, often providing the spark that was needed to save a deteriorating relationship. One testimonial explained that the implant saved a couple’s marriage, resulting in a new life that is “extremely more enjoyable for both of us.” Dr. Elist’s patients also commonly say that getting an implant is something they wish they had done sooner.

A solution with thousands of success stories

Penuma, the world’s first FDA-cleared penile enlargement implant, has been successfully implanted in thousands of men since 2004. The implant’s design benefits from Dr. Elist’s decades of experience in urology and plastic surgery. He was the first physician in the Los Angeles area to perform procedures involving penile prosthesis devices manufactured by American Medical Systems. In 1998, Los Angeles Magazine named him The Best Plastic Surgeon in Urology.

Dr. Elist chose soft medical-grade silicone for Penuma, which is the same material used in chin and buttock implants. The result is a feel and texture similar to that of a natural penis. And because Penuma’s silicone is free of liquids or gels, there is no danger that it will leak over time as some implants do.

The entire implant process, from initial consultation to successful recovery, can take several months. As with any surgical procedure, risks are involved. However, the small number of adverse events that have been reported following the procedure often result from patients failing to comply with post-operative care instructions.

Men who pursue an implant receive customized and professional attention from a select list of doctors who are internationally recognized. These doctors help patients to navigate through a number of steps leading up to the implant, including the step of selecting which size is most appropriate. The Penuma comes in various sizes, including L, XL, and XXL.

“Nobody wants a small,” says Dr. Elist, “so we don’t have a small and we don’t have a medium. We start from large.”
