In the fitness and nutrition world, few stories resonate with as much authenticity as Michael Linehan’s journey. From a personal quest for health to establishing a fresh approach within the industry, Michael’s narrative isn’t just about shedding or gaining a few pounds to look “ripped.” It’s a testament to overcoming life’s adversities, harnessing one’s passions, and redefining the essence of coaching in the fitness realm.
“Even people who manage to lose weight… There’s a reason many of them gain it back quickly.”, explains Michael in his new free book.

Here’s how he does it.
Michael’s venture into fitness began from his own personal life – wrestling with weight challenges from childhood into adulthood. His journey, marked by an era of informational scarcity, goes beyond mere weight loss. It became a quest for understanding, acceptance, and self-transformation. This personal journey laid the groundwork for Michael’s coaching ethos—a blend of empathy, expertise, and encouragement.
Michael says he struggled quite a bit with being overweight ever since he was a kid. And it took him years to lose weight and keep it off for life. But this was during a time when there wasn’t a whole lot of information on the subject. So, it was a whole lot of trial and error and self-discovery.
Wrestling not just with weight loss but with weight gain in his twenties, he realized his battle was shared by many. “It’s like my father’s genetics kicked in,” he shares, highlighting the universal struggle with body weight issues.
For Michael, fitness represents more than a career path; it’s a calling. “If I was left alone for days on end, all I’d be thinking and researching is fitness and nutrition,” he explains, showcasing his dedication and obsession with the field.
“I’ve always had an extreme passion for fitness and nutrition,” Michael Linehan recounts.
A pivotal moment in Michael’s career involved addressing the fitness industry’s notorious cycle of dieting and binge eating. By advocating a slow, strategic approach to weight loss, Michael empowers clients to maintain progress sustainably.
“I’m taking a very slow and long approach to weight loss,” he explains, aiming to dismantle the diet-binge cycle that’s all too common in the industry.
For many people, “fixing” binge eating means restricting their food intake the next day. But this restriction can do more harm than good – making the desire to binge even stronger.
“I’m working with clients who have struggled in the past with other approaches, other diets, other programs, and they’ve gotten completely burned out.”, explains Michael.
Michael’s openness about his struggles with ADHD adds a layer of relatability to his journey.
This challenge, while formidable, has honed his resolve and passion for fitness and nutrition, serving as a beacon for others facing similar obstacles. “It’s led me to some pretty dark places,” he admits, yet it’s this very adversity that’s forged a path to enlightenment and resilience.
Key to Michael’s coaching success is his exceptional communication skills.
A lot of fitness and dieting programs are completely unsustainable. It’s very common for someone to see results, fall off, and then – go back to the same program, like an athlete in an elite program.
The issue with this, explains Linehan, is that people burn out, life gets in the way, and then they gain back the weight.
To combat this, Michael is taking a very slow and long approach to weight loss because that’s what he did for himself to keep the weight off for the rest of his life.
“The ability to communicate and translate complex training ideas is very important,” Michael asserts, highlighting the necessity of evolving from a coach to a collaborator.
In an industry often criticized for its superficial focus, Michael distinguishes himself by tackling the root causes of fitness and nutrition challenges. “I think that’s something that people get wrong,” he mentions, stressing the importance of a holistic approach that goes beyond mere aesthetics to foster genuine, long-lasting change.
As Michael continues to grow in the fitness and nutrition coaching world, his journey serves as proof of how it’s possible to lose weight and keep it off.
While it’s possible to lose weight from fad diets – what’s the point if you hate yourself during the whole process? You’re just going to gain it back either way.
Your diet should be based on your lifestyle, not the other way around.
Michael Linehan’s approach to fitness and nutrition is not just about transforming bodies; it’s about changing lives through sustainable, personalized methods. His journey from struggling with weight issues to becoming a beacon of guidance in the fitness industry illustrates a profound commitment to genuine, long-lasting wellness.
