Ex-Cirque Du Soleil performer and trapeze artist, Renato Fernandes, is moving from flipping in the air to flipping burgers. The sixth-generation circus artist is pursuing his dream of building a burger restaurant.
The 29-year-old artist is launching Twins Burgers, a business venture that comes as a response to the COVID-19 crisis. When shows and events got hit by cancellations, the artist found himself without any employment. While the new venture is a response to an unwanted crisis, the pandemic has been a blessing in disguise as the concept is something close to Renato’s heart. “I have always loved burgers and different kinds and different flavors,” shares Renato. “My mom is a great cook, who owned a small Brazilian restaurant in Orlando. She taught me everything, and I fell in love with the food business.”
Twins Burgers is not Renato’s first restaurant, but it is the first one that he is building from scratch. With lockdowns and restrictions, the performer turned businessman is focusing on providing catering, party, and event packages. In the process, Renato is saving every penny he can save in preparation for the acquisition of a food truck that will go around Las Vegas, serving the Fernandes family’s unique burgers. Renato also hopes to secure a location that will become a permanent and physical restaurant.
What sets Twins Burgers apart is the love, passion, and care that go into them. Burgers are all handmade from Brazilian cut meat, otherwise known as Picanha cuts. Renato’s burgers use the freshest of ingredients to come up with some of the best tasting burgers in the Nevada area. The best seller of Twins Burgers has to be the X-Extravaganza. This recipe brings together the best from six different kinds of meat, including chicken, beef, sausage, pork, bacon, and shrimp for a gastronomic experience unlike any other.
As far as his circus experience goes, Renato knows what it’s like to work hard and succeed in the process. He joined Cirque Du Soleil-La Nouba back in 2012, an accomplishment that a very select few experience in their lifetime. In February 2016, he also became the first man ever in the history of performing to accomplish a double twisting double and a half on the flying trapeze, a move that is both risky and elegant to witness.
Renato’s fame as an artist goes deep into his family’s roots. A part of six generations of flying trapeze performers, the entertainer knows what it’s like to be under pressure. He started performing at the age of 4 years old and endured strenuous training and 25 years of conquering the tension of the circus stage. Today, he takes that endurance and grace under pressure and applies it to his entrepreneurial ventures.
One of the entrepreneur’s greatest motivations is his children. A single father to two daughters, Renato dedicates his work and life to providing them with a comfortable life. He recalls all the special moments he shares with his daughters over making burgers. For Renato, Twin Burgers isn’t just a business. It’s a part of his soul. He hopes that in the years to come, he can expand his venture to multiple stores all over the state and even the nation.
