Pop Cautious is a rising phenom of the country’s music industry. Besides writing his own music, he also works with many artists through a record label he founded back in 2015, Pop Cautious Records. Since he debuted in the same year, Pop Cautious has already dropped tracks that hooked listeners until the last second. But the man behind it, the Houston-native Tyler Porterfield, is more than just a musician.
When Tyler Porterfield was still in school, it came across his mind that pursuing his passion can also inspire change. Tyler recalled that during an activity, his teacher asked him what business he’d want to pursue. Tyler always knew it should be related to music as he always had a deep love for it. But he asked himself then, how should he establish a brand different from the others?
“I thought, if I really am going to turn this into an actual business, I want it to have good intentions.” And ever since, Tyler Porterfield has held to the promise of using music to create positive changes. He then founded Pop Cautious Records to help in various causes. For instance, they hosted a clothing drive for the needy and raised money for after-school programs, animal shelters, to mention a few.
As a recording artist, Tyler Porterfield boasts a variety of songs like “SUNSHINE,” “Willow,” “Peace Song,” among others. His single “Blue Dream,” for one, was played on Southern California’s premier FM radio station, KCSN. “Blue Dream” is part of his debut self-titled EP Album released in 2016. But the succeeding years were hard on Tyler. After releasing “SUNSHINE” in 2018, he took an unexpected leave from the music industry.
He took the time off because of family matters. Like any artist in the industry, problems would inevitably arise and force someone to quit. It was not the end for Tyler Porterfield, however. This year, he came back stronger and more motivated than ever. He is now tirelessly working on completing his debut LP record, “Troubadour.”
Tyler also recently dropped another track, titled “Peace Song,” which was initially commissioned by Rotary. The song is meaningful for Tyler as it is all about uniting and calling for justice. The current climate that people live in is full of negativities. Music is Tyler’s way of countering them.
He said that there are so many people right now who are calling for justice against violence. He added, “I’m proud of the people speaking up. We all need to stand together to reach our ultimate goal; peace.” The song was recorded in a home studio and mastered by 15-time Grammy award-winning engineer, Howie Weinberg.
Tyler Porterfield looks to the future and sees himself making more music and expanding the roster of artists in Pop Cautious Records. He will always remain faithful to music’s real purpose: to effect peace, unity, and love. And with Pop Cautious Records, he works hard to produce songs that serve as “honest resonance of authentic music.”
