Music has long been an avenue for artists to share and talk about a wide array of topics. These topics can range from love, friendship, family, hardships, life, food, or even politics; and they have been serving us well for generations, being the source of inspiration and entertainment for many. For a long time, artists have taken to their songs to tell stories and even express opinions. Zyminah is an emerging talent who wishes to do the same and even more.
Zyminah is a 26-year-old up-and-coming artist from New Jersey. She graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Kean University but soon realized that her passion was somewhere else. Today, Zyminah is working toward a career in the music and entertainment industry.
She has always been interested in music, growing up in a family of singers, rappers, and even DJs. Zyminah also writes poetry and often expresses this through rap songs. She often shares these, along with some covers of her favorite songs, to her growing following on her social media platforms. The emerging talent is determined to keep on growing her brand and establishing her identity as an artist. “My style is more old school mixed with a little bit of new,” she describes. Songwriting and poetry have been her avenues of expression for as long as she can remember. According to the artist, she has been writing ever since she could pick up a pen.
She is also a dancer and has been dancing since she was young. Zyminah does dance covers and shares these on her various platforms as well.
“Music is my passion, and [it is] the way I speak to people around me,” she shares. Pursuing this passion has not been easy for her, and there were definitely times when she was tempted to give up, but according to the singer-songwriter, “giving up is not a word that should be in anyone’s vocabulary.”
Her family and friends are her main inspiration and are the very reason she keeps going with her craft. They continue to encourage her through their wise words every day, and this is precisely what she wishes to do for fellow artists and people around her as well. Zyminah takes to her platforms to do just that—inspire others. She continues to share words of encouragement there, from professional artists that have influenced her music and drive, and even some words from herself.
“I thank the Lord for waking me up and (allowing me to) continue to have a voice through my music and motivate and speak up for those around me. He has given me this talent, and I will keep moving as a Black queen,” Zyminah recently wrote on her Twitter page.
Zyminah believes that being an artist is not just about having the opportunity to share your material with an audience, but it is also about having the power to inspire. She wishes to be influential in helping other people.
