Experimental musician, Skyler Meany, is making music in many genres. With over 16 years of writing and recording, he is more than prepared to be prolific in the creation of his music. Having just released a metal album, a rap album, two synthwave albums, Skyler’s upcoming Frank Zappa-inspired album, Zapped!, is sure to gain positive reviews into the industry.
Skyler has been in the music business for quite a while. He has been playing the guitar for over 18 years, more than half his life. He also holds considerable experience in playing the piano, bass, ukulele, mandolin, synthesizer, baritone euphonium, drums, accordion, and harmonica. Formerly a member of the band 1947, Skyler has had multiple years of vocal training and has experience in both analog and digital recording.
Coupled with his impressive portfolio in the industry is Skyler’s inspiration for his music. Following the deaths of his two best friends and fellow musicians, Skyler was driven to honor them by creating more music than ever. Having endured more loss than most 30-year-olds, he started channeling his pain through music. What rings out from Skyler’s creations is a smorgasbord of sounds ranging from metal, synthwave, and much more.
Holding a BA in Philosophy degree from Florida Atlantic University, Skyler keeps an open mind in the industry. “Breaking away from the shackles of my roots in rock music, there is no limit to genres I’ll explore,” he states. Having been part of a band before, Skyler spent over a decade playing gigs for inadequate compensation. The pay was hardly enough to cover gas money traveling to the venue, and the band’s investment of over 1,000 dollars for album production only resulted in added expense.
The musician then decided to revamp his approach and minimize expenses by producing and releasing his music by himself. He made a promise to himself to have his music flowing with an album out each month. With his knowledge of a variety of instruments, hardware, and software, Skyler crafts unique and original music plotted out in a diverse and impressive tracklist.
Skyler currently manages his independent label, Weird Records, and can finally afford himself the freedom to make music in any genre he wants. He collaborates with many musicians, hoping to showcase the talents of others while allowing for uninhibited musical freedom. Skyler has also been performing in several live shows, including a performance at Whiskey-A-Go-Go in Los Angeles, and the Cannabis Freedom Festival in Melbourne.
“It’s great to have my music out there, and I have more people listening to it now than ever. Paul McCartney is one of my biggest influences, and I always aspired to help the world with my music. I still have those dreams, and I know that music is a powerful weapon in forging a peaceful future for this planet. Music helps people on so many levels, and I love helping others,” Skyler shares.
In his free time, Skyler enjoys spending time with his family and his girlfriend. Along with his love for music, Skyler also grows his passion for literature. He has a fantasy novel in the works, already in its third draft.
Hoping to awaken the musician, painter, writer, and artist in his listeners, Skyler continues to write and release his sound. ‘Zapped!’ is slated to be released this July 24, 2020. The upcoming album will feature tracks inspired by music legend Frank Zappa and will be followed by a punk album on August 24, 2020.To learn more about Skyler and to listen to his extensive and diverse tracklist, check out his official website.
