7 Ways to Host the Party of the Year!

With summer now upon us, it’s finally time again for us to start having parties outdoors. What better way to prepare than to brush up on your party planning skills. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone birthday or having a bingo game night with friends, we’ve got you sorted.

In this article, we’ll be sharing 7 party hosting tips that’ll have you throwing the very best parties in absolutely no time and giving you everything you need to know about party planning.

1. Make a guest list

This is probably the most important step when planning a party, as you need to make sure you don’t leave anyone off the guest list.  A good way to do this is to write down all the people you want to invite and then send out invitations either by post or email, depending on your preference.

Make sure to remember that people will likely bring their partners, even if they aren’t explicitly invited, so it’d be worth buying more supplies than you might think you’ll need. The last thing you’d want to happen is to run out of food or drink because you didn’t realize that Jim from across the road was going to bring his wife, and now she doesn’t have anything to eat or drink.

2. Choose a theme

Some popular party themes include beach parties, pool parties, carnivals, movie nights, and fancy dress parties – the options are endless! Choosing a theme for your party can help to make it more fun and memorable for guests. It also helps with decorations and food if you have something specific in mind.

You can have some real fun here. Is there an occasion on the horizon that you’d like to celebrate properly? Go all out and make sure that all your guests are well informed. You can plan everything around this theme, including the decorations and games that you’ll be playing – more on that below!

3. Decorate accordingly

Once you’ve chosen your party’s theme, it’s time to start thinking about how you will decorate. Again, this will depend on what kind of party it is, but some general tips would be to use streamers and balloons for color, banners and posters for fun, and fairy lights or candles for the atmosphere.

Of course, feel free to get creative with your decorations – there are no rules! You don’t have to spend a fortune either – a great way to get the family involved is to let them use their arts and crafts skills to make some fun, themed decorations that’ll almost definitely be a talking point for your guests when they arrive. It helps keep everyone busy and involved in the party hosting process.

4. Prepare some games

No party is complete without some fun and games! As with decor, the kind of games you’ll want to prepare will depend on your party’s theme but some classics that are always popular include charades, Twister, musical chairs, and scavenger hunts.

If you choose to have a cookout and want to get the grill roaring, you could have a cooking competition with guests being challenged to create the best burger possible with the ingredients you have in your pantry. This not only takes the pressure off you having to cook for everyone, but it also means that people can get involved and it adds a bit of competition to the party as well.

5. Put together a playlist

Having good music at a party is essential in setting the right mood, so make sure you spend some time putting together a playlist of all your favorite songs. If you’re not sure what kind of music to play, then think about what would be most appropriate for your party’s theme.

An idea that we’ve seen on social media recently is to ask every guest for one song recommendation, or for them to add it directly to the shared playlist online, meaning everyone will be able to listen to music that they enjoy. If you want to, you could also play a game where guests have to try and guess who suggest the current song. If you want to award prizes at the end, go for it!

6. Plan your food & drink options in advance

Nobody wants to be stuck in the kitchen all night cooking or mixing drinks when they could be out enjoying the party. So it’s important to plan your food and drink options in advance. For food, try to prepare dishes that can be made ahead of time or that can easily be served buffet style.

Remember to also cater to any dietary requirements guests may have – it’s always better to stay on the side of caution here. A safe shout, though it’s not always perfect, is to have some meat-free food options such as the Impossible Burgers in case you have anyone following a meat-free, kosher, or halal diet. It’s always best to try and make everyone feel included.

7. Have fun!

Last but not least, don’t forget to have fun yourself! After all, you are the host so it’s your job to make sure everyone else is enjoying themselves. So relax, enjoy the party and make some great memories with your friends.

Party planning can be super stressful but your guests won’t have as much of a good time if they can see you, the host, being on edge for the duration of the night. So why not take time to relax a little beforehand to help you unwind. Relax and live your best life as the ultimate party host. You’ve got this!
