Last week, the historic campus of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Journalism of the University of Kyiv was abuzz with innovation and inspiration as it hosted the AI4ART & MEDIA 2024 forum. Initiated by the YourKindness Fund, founded by Denys Krasnikov and Ivan Stepurin, this groundbreaking event was supported by Hollywood Industry and marked a pivotal moment in exploring artificial intelligence’s role in shaping the future of media and creative industries in Ukraine.
The primary aim of AI4ART & MEDIA 2024 was to catalyze the emergence of a robust AI technology sector within Ukraine, particularly focusing on its application in media, television, and film production using the best practices of US studios. Recognizing the need to leverage global expertise, the forum brought together an illustrious ensemble of in-person and online speakers, including luminaries from Hollywood’s media landscape.
Renard Jenkins, President of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, graced the forum with insights into the evolving newest approaches to filmmaking and journalism and practices within the industry. James Blevins, Co-Founder of Mesh, a pioneering Virtual Production Line Producing Company, offered a glimpse into the future of filmmaking through immersive technologies and answered a question about the risks of the potential substitution of human actors by AI. Meanwhile, Caleb and Shelby Ward, Founders of Curious Refuge popular YouTube channel and educational courses about AI filmmaking, shared their expertise in AI storytelling, revolutionizing narrative creation using different AI tools for the creation new generation of video masterpieces.
The inclusion of Mike Gioia, Co-founder of Late Arrivals studio, underscored the growing significance of AI in fostering innovation and experimentation globally. Maxym Iakovliev, Product Management Team Lead at Air Media-Tech, explained about current YouTube limitation of using AI-generated content. Dr. Yurii Bondar, Director of the Scientific and Educational Institute of Journalism, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, provided invaluable academic perspectives on the intersection of AI and journalism.
Beyond the enriching exchange of ideas, AI4ART & MEDIA 2024 offered attendees a screening of AI-generated films namedThe AI Content Swallowers Night. Denys Krasnikov, expressed his commitment to fostering continued educational initiatives for Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of nurturing talent and innovation in Ukraine regardless of the devastating war.
