The alternative-indie-pop-rock band hails from Salt Lake City, Utah. It is composed of cousins Jackson and Dallan Turnbull, who are the lead vocals and lead instrumentalists. They are joined by Brent Richards, who plays the drums.
The group was first formed in 2014 after Jackson and Dallan wrote their first song together. They created acoustic music during their early days but eventually shifted to their current alternative sound.
In 2017, The People’s Thieves independently released their debut album Voices. It contains eleven tracks, including “Broken,” “Falling Off,” “Edge of Rain,” and “Nothing on My Shoulders,” and has peaked at the 31st spot on the iTunes Alternative chart. Since it premiered, the record has amassed more than 3 million streams on Spotify with over 500,000 listeners.
Following the positive reception of Voices, the group decided to continue creating captivating songs, and in August of 2021, they dropped their second record, Tunnels. The album features tracks like “Hold My Weight,” “Now That We’re Alone,” “On My Own,” and “When the Sun Goes.”
This time around, it peaked at #7 on the iTunes Alternative chart and #45 top overall albums in the country. On top of that, the EP earned more than 20 million streams across all platforms, with 2.5 million album streams within the first week of its release.
