People cope with stressful situations differently; some like to reach out to their support system, while others prefer to deal with it alone. As for the up-and-coming musical group, The People’s Thieves, they have found an excellent way to express their struggles with mental health issues by creating music.
The alternative-indie-pop-rock band hails from Salt Lake City, Utah. It is composed of cousins Jackson and Dallan Turnbull, who are the lead vocals and lead instrumentalists. They are joined by Brent Richards, who plays the drums.
The group was first formed in 2014 after Jackson and Dallan wrote their first song together. They created acoustic music during their early days but eventually shifted to their current alternative sound.
In 2017, The People’s Thieves independently released their debut album Voices. It contains eleven tracks, including “Broken,” “Falling Off,” “Edge of Rain,” and “Nothing on My Shoulders,” and has peaked at the 31st spot on the iTunes Alternative chart. Since it premiered, the record has amassed more than 3 million streams on Spotify with over 500,000 listeners.
Following the positive reception of Voices, the group decided to continue creating captivating songs, and in August of 2021, they dropped their second record, Tunnels. The album features tracks like “Hold My Weight,” “Now That We’re Alone,” “On My Own,” and “When the Sun Goes.”
This time around, it peaked at #7 on the iTunes Alternative chart and #45 top overall albums in the country. On top of that, the EP earned more than 20 million streams across all platforms, with 2.5 million album streams within the first week of its release.
Undoubtedly, The People’s Thieves is shaping to be the music industry’s next big star. A significant contributor to the band’s stellar success is their unrivaled musical prowess and skills that are showcased in their performances.
But more than that, it is the trio’s authenticity and relatability that make them stand out from the rest. Furthermore, they are passionate about creating meaningful songs that primarily focus on their firsthand experiences with depression and anxiety, which resonates with many fans.
The group hopes that by sharing their journey through music, they may help others in their own battles with mental health. Moreover, they aspire to become a source of inspiration and motivation to their listeners.
The future indeed looks bright for The People’s Thieves as they continue to skyrocket toward the top of the music and alternative scene. Currently, the band is working on new music alongside the industry’s top producers. Signing a major record deal is also on the horizon for the highly talented group.
But most importantly, Jackson, Dallan, and Brent remain steadfast on their goal of producing singles and albums that promote their advocacy for mental health. As such, fans should be on the lookout as The People’s Thieves gears up for the exciting next stage of their music career.
