Award Winning Indie Filmmaker Tevin Everett Is Here to Tell His Story

Everyone has stories to tell. Many are inspired by their own experiences as well as the stories in their communities that they find ways to own their voice and amplify it to make others’ voices be heard. Such is the case of the emerging award winning indie filmmaker, Tevin Everett.

“Just sharing my vision with the world, whatever that looks like,” as written on his Instagram bio, and we’re here to witness how he will be navigating the world of independent filmmaking, creating stories that not only inspire but also make a statement.

Tevin always knew he had a passion for filmmaking, and so, after serving in the US Navy for eight years, he took a step forward and moved to Los Angeles to become a filmmaker. This move happened to be something he would never imagine to happen, but just a few months in, opportunities were already knocking in his door. Later on, he wrote his first screenplay, called The Helper. And to validate his innate talent, brilliance for screenwriting, and, more importantly, his tenacity to tell his story.

It was only the beginning for Tevin as more opportunities came afterward. He worked hard and wrote several new screenplays for TV shows and feature films, which allowed him to slowly make a name for himself in the industry. However, Tevin knew there was something he wanted to go into, which is not just to write stories but to produce it.

“My ability to get the job done that I brought with me from the military. No task is too big. Everything can be figured out—especially when it comes to passion projects,” Tevin shares.

Coming into the new year, many have seen his directorial debut with his short film, the Don’t Call List. The film is a quirky romantic comedy about a man who struggles to deal with his commitment issues on Valentine’s Day. For Tevin, working on his film was hard to believe, but it was definitely a dream come true. The Don’t Call List had a massive festival run most notably earning Best Romantic Film at Top Shorts, Best Romantic Comedy at the New York Film Awards  and Award Nominee at Indie Shorts Fest. It also caught the attention of international Festivals such as Montreal Independent Film Festival and Tokyo International Film Festival. You can now watch the Don’t Call List on Amazon Prime.

Recently, Tevin finished his newest project Short Term, the follow on to the Don’t Call List which he wrote, directed, and produced. “Short Term and the whole collection is really about what happens when you find that ultra powerful love but you don’t cherish it. It’s really a film about just how bad love can go.” Short Term will be on Amazon Prime in February after its festival run.

The newest project coming from the A Tevin Everett Jawn production company is the Diversity Hires TV series. The webseries Tevin created has already had a notable festival run winning best web series at New York Film Awards and Honorable Mention at Top Shorts. Tevin will begin filming the TV series this year. For this Tevin has set his aspirations on the EMMY awards.

There is a long road ahead of Tevin in this industry. However, he wants to be able to not only use his voice but also encourage others to let their voices be heard as well. He envisions his company as an outlet for all the kids and people who feel they have a unique story to tell. Whether it is telling his story or helping others tell theirs, Tevin Everett is definitely someone to watch out for in the coming years.Learn more about Tevin Everett by visiting his website Atevineverettjawn.com or his  Instagram.
