BetterDayz Provides Platform for People Who Have Mental Illness, Aims to Eradicate Stigma on Mental Health

Mental health is one of the most overlooked topics today. Thankfully, with many sharing and braving their stories forward, more conversations are taking place surrounding the issue, and BetterDayz is continually doing its part to contribute to the movement.

BetterDayz is a platform that offers a safe space for healing and conversations to people suffering from various mental health issues. The platform understands that many are struggling to break free from stigmas and let themselves be heard. Hence, BetterDayz aims to provide them with an avenue where they can connect with mental health professionals and other individuals who are also going through the same issues to understand themselves better while simultaneously uplifting others by sharing their stories.

Statistics reveal that one in every 17 people have or are experiencing mental health issues at some point in their lives. Studies also reveal that it is likely that people have encountered or have relationships with someone who is suffering from mental illness. BetterDayz emphasizes that with the rising number of people going through mental health issues every day, it is increasingly important to give them the necessary support they need.

“There are many people who are out there trying to understand their own mental health and mental illness. And there are many more who feel lost, scared, crazy, and alone. It doesn’t have to be like this. Mental illness does not have to be seen as a taboo,” shared BetterDayz founder Miatta Christopher. “That is what BetterDayz is working to change. By creating a community of people who can share their stories, help and support each other, and a safe space where people can easily search for mental health providers; a place without stigma.”

Like many, the founder also had to work her way through her mental health journey for a long time by herself. She  did not know what mental illnesses or mental health were. She also had no idea how various conditions are related to others. All she knew was how she was feeling and explained that the void was something she still couldn’t put into words. She felt like she was alone, isolated, helpless. Miatta shared that those days were filled with fear, and she thought she was the only one in the world feeling the way she did. Eventually, she realized that there are others who are going through the same journey, and she doesn’t have to face the struggles alone.

And so, Miatta  built BetterDayz to eradicate stigmas surrounding mental health and serve as the voice of those who are suffering from mental illness. The founder encourages everyone to make an account for themselves of the people they love on the platform for free and participate in the global initiative to create active change in how society views mental health.

“People hurt from time to time, but together we can all have happier, healthier days. Connect with people who need you,” said the founder.

BetterDayz has yet to make its website public but is encouraging individuals to pre-register to its community as early as now through allaboutbetterdayz@gmail.com.
