Cameron Diaz is set to return to the film business after an eight-year absence. In the upcoming Netflix feature “Back in Action,” Diaz will co-star with Jamie Foxx after formally announcing her retirement from the entertainment industry in 2018. Together, Diaz and Foxx previously collaborated on the 2014 adaptation of “Annie,” which served as Diaz’s last acting role before her “retirement,” and the sports drama “Any Given Sunday” from 1999.
Foxx made the revelation on Twitter by posting audio from a conversation with Diaz, who was unable to find the right words to reveal her upcoming return to the big screen. Following the news, the actress penned a tale on Instagram with the caption, “(Jamie Foxx) only you could get me back in action.” It’s going to be so much fun, and I absolutely can’t wait!
Foxx tweeted the film’s production will start this year, however, Netflix hasn’t yet decided when it will be released. Foxx posted a recording of the two talking about Diaz’s return on Twitter to mark her return.
Tom Brady, who retired from the NFL earlier this year only to re-join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 40 days later, was thus called in by Foxx as someone who is knowledgeable about returning to work after taking a break.
Diaz launched an organic wine label, which kept her busy even though she hasn’t been as active in Hollywood lately. In a previous interview, Diaz said that she couldn’t envision spending 16 hours a day working on a set after becoming a mother.
In 2015, Diaz wed musician Benji Madden of Good Charlotte; the couple has one kid together, Raddix, born in 2020.
Seth Gordon (“Horrible Bosses”) is directing the film from a script that they co-wrote with Brendan O’Brien (“Neighbors”) for the movie. The plot’s specifics are being kept under wraps. Foxx predicts that production will begin later this year.
O’Brien, Datari Turner, Mark McNair, and Foxx are all involved in the executive production of “Back in Action.” Beau Bauman played the lead in “Central Intelligence,” and Gordon, through Exhibit A, made the movie.
Diaz was one of the most financially successful actors in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Alongside Jim Carrey, she made her film debut in “The Mask” in 1994. She subsequently had appearances in additional well-known romantic comedies, including “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “Charlie’s Angels,” and “Shrek.” In “Annie,” Cameron Diaz played Miss Hannigan in her final acting performance before announcing her retirement in 2018. Until Foxx and Netflix arrived, that is.
